PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Program deliveryFully online with opportunities for field-based research in your community

Time to complete18 to 24 months

CurriculumRequired courses (23 credits)

• Foundations in Natural Science and Environmental Education (4 credits)

• The Environment and Society (3 credits)

• History of the Environment (3 credits)

• Ecological Systems: Biomes (3 credits)

• Social Systems: Environmental Footprints (2 credits)

• Research Methods Practicum (4 credits)

• Capstone (4 credits)

Elective courses (12 credits)

These credits can be obtained through:

• Completion of the Environmental Education certificate.

• Graduate-level continuing studies courses.

• Courses in any other continuing studies certificate program, including areas such as ASD, ESL, K-5 Mathematics, Gifted Education, or Urban Teaching.

ADMISSION

To apply for admission to the MAEd:NSEE program, please submit:

• Online application (no fee for U.S. residents).

• Official transcript of a bachelor’s degree with a GPA of at least 3.0 from a nationally or regionally accredited college or university. This should be sent directly from the institution to Graduate Admission or provided in a sealed, signed envelope. You do not have to provide transcripts for courses taken at Hamline University.

Provisional admission: If you have a GPA of 2.5-2.9, you may be considered for provisional admission. Please provide a one to two page written reflection indicating your plans for meeting the Hamline GPA requirements if admitted to the program.

• Two-page essay that describes your personal and professional philosophy of environmental education.

• Résumé or curriculum vitae outlining your education and professional experience.

• Two letters of recommendation written by people unrelated to you, who are familiar with your academic and/or professional history and who can accurately assess your potential for successful graduate study. Letters must be sent directly to Graduate Admission by the person writing the recommendations.
