What is MCTM?The programme was established since 1982 to train medical graduates to become extensively proficient and skilful in clinical tropical medicine and research on tropical diseases.

Learning is to be provided via experience sharing from lecturers and group discussion, which con-tribute to knowledge exchange based on reason-able arguments of different opinions.

Therefore, medical graduates of this programme will be able to apply clinical tropical medicine and related researches to solve public health problems and improve quality of life of people in the tropi-cal region.

For 2016-2017 StudentsThe programme’s objectives are to develop clinicians who are knowledgible and understanding the tropi-cal diseases, skillful and have clinical experience in approaching patients with tropical diseases. Moreo-ver, the graduates will also know how to conduct clinical research from the ground to the top; includ-ing methodology, good clinical practice, forming re-search questions, design the research and writing up the proposal, ethical process, data collection, analysis and writing up. They will be able to communicate and disseminate the knowledge arisen from the research work. Last and not least, graduate will be a medical and research professional.

Expected Learning OutcomesThe programme has set up 13 Expected Learning Outcomes (ELOs) as the followings:1. Reflect the ethical consideration on patient care and clinical research2. Apply code of conduct in medical professionalism3. Describe all important tropical diseases covering all detailed aspects4. Describe the research methodologies and good clinical practice5. Approach and manage patients with common trop-ical diseases6. Conduct an international standard clinical research in tropical diseases7. Interpret the result of clinical research8. Appraise and critique research articles according to the standard guidelines9. Develop professionalism10. Develop leadership, responsibility, and construc-tive relationship in career practice and clinical re-search11. Integrate lifelong learning in tropical diseases and research in international level12. Use proper statistic and software programme to analyse data arising from clinical research13. Perform a standard scientific presentation using proper presentation tools and presentation skill

The only master degree for medical doc-tors to study tropical diseases in real tropical country. In depth knowledge in

tropical medicine and basic research.

International Programme

Admission RequirementsThere are two plans of the study programme.

Plan A(2): The applicant is required to:• *have graduated in medicine (either M.D. or

M.B.B.S. or equivalent degrees) with the GPA not less than 3.0 (transcript required)

and• practice as a qualified medical practitioner (rec-

ommendation or confirmation documents re-quired) for more than 3 years

Plan B: The applicant is required to:• *have graduated in medicine (either M.D. or

M.B.B.S. or equivalent degrees) with the GPA not less than 2.7 (transcript required)

and• practice as a qualified medical practitioner (rec-

ommendation or confirmation documents re-quired) for more than 1 year

* Eligible if graduated in D.T.M.(&H.) from quali-fied institute approved by the Faculty of Graduate Study within the past 5 years. Applicants in this cat-egory can graduate within 6 months!.The programme is taught in English. Therefore, the applicants must have English language proficiency test with the following criteria:• IELTS score more than 5.5, or• TOEFL score more than 500 or• pass Mahidol University English Language Pro-

ficiency Test

Interview will be conducted within January for both plans, and within July for those who already gradu-

ated D.T.M.(&H.).

A 1-year programme which fulfils your future career as an expert tropical doctors who can work anywhere in the tropics, from world reknown organisations, public and private sectors, both hospital-based and public health policymaker, to non-profit organisa-

tions.

Your application and related documents will be reviewed by the MCTM programme committee. There will be an arrangement for the interview by the appointed Entrance Committee either by online or face-to-face communication.

You will be informed the acceptance or denial for joining the programme in 2-4 weeks upon an approval of the programme committee after interview session by an official acceptance letter via e-mail. Applicant should send a deposit payment of US$ 250 to Mahidol-BSTM to confirm your joining.

International Programme

Programme SpecificationThe curriculum is 1-2 years, with all core and elective sub-jects finished by 2nd semester of the first year, and research work and thesis/thematic paper started since the beginning of 2nd semester of the first year. However, student, espe-cially in plan B, can be graduated at the end of 1st year if the research work and thematic paper has been approved.

The total credit earned for both plans of the programme is 36 credits.
