Description of ContentThe MA Integrated Design established in2009, is an international and research-orient-ed Masters course that can be studied eitherconsecutively ater the BA Integrated Design

or ater a Bachelors or higher academic de-gree. The distinctive eature o the course is tobe ound in its holistic design understanding, which at KISD is both learnt and lived.

By this we mean a course that integrates vari-ous approaches, subject areas and disciplines, but also opens up paths or integration withneighbouring research and practical areas,

and discourses in enterprise, science andresearch. The chie eatures distinguishingthe MA rom ordinary courses are the higheremphasis placed on research-relevant aspects,

scientic research and the complexity o theprojects and demands, as well as teachingexperience through project assistance andthe heavy sel-reliance in the development othe key aspects o study.

A key aspect o the Integrated Designcourse is the development o approachesor Research through Design, in research-oriented design projects. This means usingthe associative, anticipative and strategicpotential o design in the development o

interaces between varying perspectives. Theappropriate choice o presentation mediumwill likewise, throughout the course, bepicked out as central theme and continuallyenhanced. The students learn with a highproportion o sel-motivated projects anddesign concepts in international collabora-tions to deploy their design competencies

in new ways. The infuence that design is ableto exert on society and, conversely, the ob-servation o the users o new designs, bothplay a central role.

Educational OrganisationThe MA programme Integrated Design atKISD oers a unique opportunity to combinea deep understanding o design and researchprocesses with academic and proessionalexperience. We are looking or students with anacademic degree (BA or higher, at least 4 yearsstudy time) and proessional experience bothin design or a related area (design and man-agement, design and journalism, design andphilosophy, design and architecture just toname a ew). We are looking or proessionals

who want to advance and expand their compe-tence, knowledge and understanding o designprocesses, strategies, concepts, cultural aspects, research and beyond. The most important parto the application is the outline o an individualproject (the Sel-Initiated Project), which will bethe core and basis o the MA studies. With theMA programme we are aiming at setting up a

Research Group with about 15 students everyyear with dierent perspectives, interests andexperiences, building the oundation or strongteamwork and a sustainable network.
