Masters Games District 2 Newsletter Summer 2018

We would like to say thank you to our volunteers, Masters Games competitors,

NARCOG, TARCOG, the Council’s on Aging, the Huntsville-Madison Co. Senior Center,

Brahan Springs Recreation Center, all the Senior Centers involved, and this year’s sponsor,

Humana. Without you, District Masters Games would not be possible. We ALL had a

wonderful time!

This Newsletter was created by the DeKalb County Council on Aging. This includes a list

of all the winners at this year’s District 2 Masters Games. The State Games will be held the

week of October 15 - 18, 2018 in Valley, AL. We look forward to seeing you all at the State

Games this year to celebrate our 28th Anniversary!

For those of you that have not heard of the “Fun Walk” at State Masters Games, here are

the details…When you have some down time at State Masters Games, you can walk 1 mile on

the indoor walking track to earn a Fun Walk Medal. It does not have to be done all at once.

You can take more than 1 day to complete it. We have seen several people with walkers earn

their Fun Walk medal after a couple days of walking. People in electric wheel chairs have also

rolled 1 mile to earn their Fun Walk medal.

Also, remember that the lunch/supper tables are usually set up all week. They will be

available for people to sit at when they have down time. Many participants like to bring playing

cards or dominoes to play at those tables.

If you are wondering what to wear to this year’s games, here are a few suggestions:

- Wear whatever you want to your events, but keep in mind that depending on where your

event is…it could be cold, hot, wet, or windy.

- Opening Ceremonies (3:00 pm) on Monday – wear your new tie-dye District Shirt if you

can. Supper will be served immediately following.

- Tuesday night banquet – wear what you want, but most people like to dress up in church

clothes because of the Hall of Fame Awards Ceremony.

- Wednesday night is a Halloween Theme. You can wear a Halloween costume or

whatever is comfortable. Just come,

enjoy the entertainment, hang out

with friends, and eat supper.
