•Several of our assignments will give you the opportunity to share your knowledge in a variety of different ways.

•Your ability to meet the requirements of the

assignments will determine whether or not you have mastered the material.

•Once you have met the stated mastery level for a particular element or skill, you will be moving into extending and

elaborating on that skill.

•Your choices will begin to vary and you will have more control

over the assignments.

•If you have NOT met the stated mastery level for a particular element or skill, you will be

required to revisit and attempt to demonstrate mastery.

•Your choices will be limited and you will have less control over

the assignments.

• For example, you recently completed a technology assignment identifying and explaining the connection between the

description of the settings and the characters and events in the text.

• Students that have shown mastery of the literary element through their work will be allowed to use one of the next assignment slides as an extension of their knowledge.

• Students that have NOT shown mastery will be required to use that slide as an attempt to

master the element and skill.

• The length of the assignments will remain the same, but the requirements of individual

students and their work will be different.

• You will need to stay on top of the material we cover and be able to show your complete

understanding and application of the elements and skills we cover in class.

• Remember that several of your assignments will be uploaded to your Wikispaces page for

others to see and evaluate.

Part 1 – Locate a section of text that describes an important setting from the

story.

Part 3 - Explain what happens in that setting and what the action reveals about

the characters involved.

Part 2 – Use taggalaxy.de to locate an image that closely matches the description of

the setting.

Liam O’ Flaherty creates the mood of story through the use descriptive words and vivid language. The setting is established as a dangerous

and challenging place to survive.

You presentation must include the follow pieces/information:

•A cover slide with the story title, author’s name, your name, class period, and date•Five (5) completed setting slides

Each slide requires:•A direct quote from the text with the correct page number•An appropriate and fitting image taken ONLY from taggalaxy.de•An explanation (NOT A SUMMARY) of the importance the setting and what is revealed about the character(s).
