Water contamination is the enemy to your air impact wrench. it's good to drain the air supply tank, but that only prevents rust in the tank. the air outlet is generally at the top of the tank and the water in the bottom doesn't make it up there to damage your impact wrench.

the key is to protect air tools from condensation that can build up in the air hose and then travel into the tool. Plus, as the weather gets colder, the water can accumulate in air lines, freeze, and cause even more damage. frozen water can break loose and damage your tools or even block the air flow in the line. the solution is to install a water filter in your air hose, midway down the air hose. A small investment in a water filter will go a long to prolong your investment in your air tools.
