    neonatal mortality and

    a 23% increased risk ofunder-five mortality at

    short

    intervals, compared to

    longer intervals of 36-

    59 months. Based on these

    findings, researchers

    recommend birth

    interval to be at least

    three years.

    Summary Findings: Maternal Health

    78% of pregnant women have at least 4 ANC visits.

    More women (58%) receive first ANC during first trimester ofpregnancy compared to 2008 (54%).

    More births were delivered by Skilled Birth Attendants (73%)compared to 2008 (62%). Reliance on Traditional BirthAttendants (hilots) is decreasing.

    Assistance from Skilled Birth Attendants during home birthvaries from 73% in Central Luzon to 16% in ARMM andDavao.

    Maternal mortality remains high.

    Summary Findings: Child Health

    Vast majority of women and newborns received postnatal careduring first week after delivery.

    Only 27% of all mothers practice exclusive breastfeeding.

    Children vaccination coverage increased from 80% (NDHS2008) to 85% with vast majority of children receiving basicvaccination.

    Both infant and under-five mortality data demonstrate steadydecrease compared with previous years. MDG targets for 2015are feasible to achieve.
