Summer maths flowers:

Draw a flower with 4 or 5 large petals. In the middle of your flower, write a target number of at least 10. You then have to write a number in each of the petals so that they add up to your target number. Below is an example for the target number of 15.

1. Will is driving 412 miles to the beach. He stopped at a service station after driving 148 miles. How many miles does he have left to drive?

2. Mark needed 24 cans of drink for his pool party. The cans come in packs of 6. How many packs does he need to buy?

3. Ken is having a BBQ. He made 37 hot dogs and 26 hamburgers. How many did he have all together? If 8 people come to his BBQ how many of each item can everyone have? What would be left over?

4. Daisy counted 7 starfish on the beach. Each starfish has 5 legs. How many starfish legs did Daisy see on the beach?

5. Alice wanted a new swimsuit that was £17.99. She has saved £13.57 so far. How much more money does she need to save to buy the swimsuit?

6. Kelly bought 3 new pairs of flip-flops. They each cost £4.36. How much money did Kelly spend in total, on the flip-flops?

7. The beach shop has 278 pairs of mens sunglasses, 315 pairs of womens sunglasses and 98 pairs of children’s sunglasses. How mnay pairs does it have altogether? If men’s sunglasses cost £4.99, womens cost £4.65 and children’s cost £3.95. How much would it cost to buy all the sunglasses in the shop?

8. On Monday, it was 91 degrees at the beach, but on Tuesday it was 79 degrees. How much warmer was it on Monday than Tuesday?

9. The Blue Lagoon hotel set out 250 umbrellas for their guests. By lunchtime, 178 umbrellas were being used. How many umbrellas were free? If each umbrella can shade three people, what is the maximum number of people that could be enjoying the shade at lunchtime?

10. Ethan spent 185 minutes in the pool on Monday; 130 minutes on Tuesday and 240 minutes on Wednesday. On Thursday, he spent 15 more minutes in the pool than on Monday, and on Friday he spent 25 minutes less than he did on Tuesday. He didn’t go into the pool on Saturday, but on Sunday he was in the pool for a quarter of the total time for the rest of the week. How many minutes was Ethan in the pool that week? What is that in hours?
