What is mass?Mass refers to how heavy something is. We
weigh things and find out how heavy they are
using scales.
Recap
What are grams and kilograms?When you have weighed something using the
scale, you measure it using grams and kilograms.
Learn
1000g = 1 kg
Start with a problem
Start with a problem
To solve this problem, we need to use all the skills we have learnt so far including how to add and subtract decimal numbers. When subtracting these numbers, you must line up the decimal point and use 0s as place value holders.
Answer:To solve this problem, we need to do 4.3 – 2.59 = 1.71kg
Teach
We are going to use our conversion skills
today to solve problems involving g and
kg.
When solving problems involving a mix of
g and kg, make sure to convert all
amounts to the same unit (just like we did
yesterday)
Teach
For this question, you will need to change 4 ½ kg to g = 4,500g. You can now find the difference between these two weights by subtracting them.
4,500 – 3,300 = 1,200g
