Dear Children, Week beginning 18 th – 22 nd January 2021 Hello! I hope you’ve all had a lovely weekend – as lovely as a lockdown weekend can be! Here is this week’s learning. Feel free to work across a row each day or to pick and choose from the activities as you wish (the maths and phonics will benefit from being done in the correct order though). I will do my best to answer all messages as soon as I can – messages sent between the hours of 8:30am and 4:30pm will always be answered the same day (should my response be delayed it is because I am working with children in school). Messages sent out of these hours may take longer to respond to. Stay safe and happy learning. Send a message if you need anything and keep sharing all the amazing things you’re up to! Dear Children, Week beginning 18th – 22nd January 2021

Hello! I hope you’ve all had a lovely weekend – as lovely as a lockdown weekend can be!

Here is this week’s learning. Feel free to work across a row each day or to pick and choose from the activities as you wish (the maths and phonics will benefit from

being done in the correct order though). I will do my best to answer all messages as soon as I can – messages sent between the hours of 8:30am and 4:30pm will

always be answered the same day (should my response be delayed it is because I am working with children in school). Messages sent out of these hours may take

longer to respond to. Stay safe and happy learning. Send a message if you need anything and keep sharing all the amazing things you’re up to!

Please watch this Numberblocks episode called ‘Hide and Seek’: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b08dmn88/numberblocks-series-1-hide-and-seek

It’s all about the ways to make 5. Maybe you could do some exploring afterwards with cubes or squares of paper to see how many different shapes you can create with 5 and even though they look different, they’ll be ‘still 5’. Or maybe you could use 5 squares of paper to find the ways to make 5like: 0+5; 1+4; etc and maybe even write down some sums -with a little help. Can you do the Numberblocks quiz? https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/puzzles/numberblocks-number-magic-adding-and-subtracting

Can you read the story of ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’? If you haven’t got the story at home you can watch it here with Mrs de Villiers reading it: https://www.loom.com/share/3d8afeec9b8c4f66ab81dab6c334a704 or here (or watch both!) https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/watch/goldilocks-story Try to make your voice like the different bears. Think about the characters in the story… can you write a list of them all and draw their pictures?

Today’s sound: ee Here’s an online lesson for you with ‘Abi’s Phonics’: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbs06xAuI8Y&list=PLGvE9caFEdieV3Ku0IkXD10sFTivUB-g1&index=6

The action is this (just the ears going back for ‘ee’). (We’ll add ‘or’ another day!) Now, can you do an outdoor word ‘ee’ hunt? Your grown up could write some ‘ee’ words on pieces of paper and hide them. You have to find them then read each word you find to score a point. How many points can you score?

Use this Twinkl PowerPoint, with Mrs de Villiers to help you, to compare groups of identical objects by counting and subitising: https://www.loom.com/share/8329ffae1cf24fcdbfe38561ad965228 Have two hoops or two areas marked out on the floor(tape or chalk). Can you find some objects that are the same – maybe you could use duplo or cutlery, fruit or socks… anything! Split them between the two spaces and talk about: ‘What you see and how you see it’. You could split them into three groups and try that too! Have fun!

Can you set up some toys to play/act out the Goldilocks story? You’ll need three teddies, three bowls, three chairs and three cushions and /or blankets (to be beds). See if you can retell the story using your props – you could be in the story or you could narrate and tell the story using your toys. Maybe you could video you telling the story and send it time to watch for my bedtime story!

Practise your flashcards and then… Can you do some of the activities for the ‘ee’ sound? (See large versions below grid)

Can you try some of our ‘Wake and Shake’ songs from YouTube? Just type in ‘Just dance kids’ and see if you can spot some of your favourites: gummy bears hot potato fireflies

In the story of ‘Goldilocks, poor baby bear’s chair got broken – maybe you could make a new one? You could use duplo, lego, card, paper… junk… see if you can make one to fit a toy teddy? Send a photo when you’ve made one!

Watch: Number Blocks –‘The Whole of Me’: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b08dr1l3/numberblocks-series-1-the-whole-of-me Can you spendsome time talking about how thenumberblocks are made up ofsmalleramounts but when there are put together what their wholenumber is. So: Number 2 can be 1 and 1. Number 3 can be 2 and 1 or 1 and 1 and 1. Number 4 can be 2 and 2 or3 and 1or 1 and 1 and 1 and 1. Number 5 can be 4 and 1 or 3 and 2 or 1 and 1 and 1 and 1 and 1 and 1 You could choose a number and write it in the middle of a page then draw or cut and stick to show the ways it can be made. Like this:

Can you make a story of ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’? A story map is simple pictures and arrows showing what happens through a story. Add some labels to the map too. I’ll put an example of one below so you can see what I mean! Its then easy to retell a story by ‘reading’ the story the map.

Practise your flashcards and then it’s time for a new sound… Today’s sound: ai Here’s Mrs de Villiers with your phonics lesson: https://www.loom.com/share/14f3f8479e384d549b2561ee612a6d5e The action is this: See if your grownup can talk some of these ‘ai’ words and you try to write them: nail tail pain drain

Have some fun doing ‘Cosmic Kids Yoga’. This lesson is all about going on a bear hunt! Have fun! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KAT5NiWHFIU

Maybe you could read (with help) and follow instructions to make your own bowl of porridge. You’ll need weighing scales and a jug to get the right amounts of oats and milk. What’s your favourite topping? Sugar? Jam? Blueberries? Banana? My favourite topping is golden syrup…yum!

Today is all about mass – heavy and light. Can you watch lesson 1 from here: https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/early-years/alive-in-5-week-3/ And then have a go at this activity:

There’s a measures game you can log in and play here. (You;ll need an adult to read the questions). https://www.purplemash.com/#app/maths/activities/cloze_measures_y1

Can you pretend to be Goldilocks and write a letter to the three Bears to apologise for breaking into their house; eating their porridge; breaking a chair and then running away? You could do ‘shared writing’ with your grown up. They write some words and letters and you write some too.

Today’s tricky word is: my Can your grown up write it for you? Can you copy it? Remember, it can’t be sounded out – you just have to learn it. Maybe you could choose a book or magazine and see if you ca spot it on any of the pages? Can you ask your grownup to chalk a hopscotch for you (or make one inside with sheets of paper). Instead of putting numbers in each sqaure put one of your tricky words! Then you can throw something onto a square in the hopscotch, hop and jump to that word and read the word to score a point!

Here is a collection of action songs from Cbeebies that you can join in with… see how many of them you know. We love singing along in school. https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/school-radio/nursery-rhymes-action-songs-medley/z7jwrj6

Can you make as set of cone characters from Goldilocks and

the Three Bears?

See below the grids for the shapes to colour and cut out – or maybe you could make your

own.

Can you watch lesson 2 from here all about capacity: https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/early-years/alive-in-5-week-3/ Then spend some time playing with a bowl of water (or in the bath) using cups and jugs and using LOTS of capacity words: Full Empty Nearly full Half full Overflowing Empty You could also get your child thinking by asking things such as: How many egg cups do you think it will take to fill the cup? With this full jug – how many cups could I fill? If I do the same with a smaller cup or egg cup will I fill more or less? Why? Capacity is all about doing!

Handwriting practice! Can you use the handwriting rhymes to practise some of your letters. (The rhymes are below the grids) Practice these letters today as they are a 'family' which means they all start in the same way: c, o, a, d, g, q.

Tricky words/recap/rhyme/CVC/CVCC Practise your flashcards and then… Play ‘Rocket Rescue’. Remember to look for any digraphs before you try to sound out the whole word. You need to choose the option to practice ‘Phase 2’ to start as we haven’t completed the Phase 3 sounds. Here’s the link for it: https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/member-only/Ph3RocketRescue.html

Let’s move and wake our brains up at the same time: Count up and back from 10/20; Count along with Jack: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MVzXKfr6e8;

Please encourage your children to say ‘TwenTy’ and not copy Jack!

How about making a bear snack or bear lunch? See if you can spread the butter, do the copping all by yourself.

You could also watch another maths lesson and then enjoy this matchbox challenge: It’s lesson 4 from here: https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/early-years/alive-in-5-week-3/ And here’s the challenge:

I wonder who’ll get the most items in their matchbox?
