Girls’ Football On Thursday afternoon our Year 5/6 girls took part in an

extremely competitive CVL Football Tournament, which was held at Mayflower High School. Throughout the tournament,

the girls put on an outstanding display of defending and attack-ing – there were some super saves as well as some excellent

goals! Both A and B teams did extremely well with the B team finishing in 8th place and the A team finishing in 2nd place,

narrowly missing out on first place to Downham! The girls have shown a huge improvement from the first tournament and we

look forward to seeing them in action again in April! A big thank you to Mrs Rowling, Mrs Steven, Mrs James and Mr Smith for helping supervise the children and a huge thank you also to Mr

Graves and Miss Pretty, our football coaches. Netball B/C Tournament

On Wednesday afternoon, our Year 5 and 6 girls took part in a rather cold and windy netball tournament, which was held at Billericay High School. We played against schools such as

Downham, Brightside, Quilters, Sunnymede and many more. All of the girls worked hard continuously and there were some

great interceptions made. In addition, we saw some super shooting from the girls. It was a good experience for all of the girls, especially Year 5 who now know what is in store for them

next year. Overall, we finished 4th and 5th. A big thank to Mrs Mason, Mrs Coughlan, Mrs Andrews and

ever, enjoyed sharing their favourite piece of work this year as well as seeing other children’s successes too.

West Stow Visit On Tuesday, Year 5 visited West Stow and travelled back in time to the Anglo-Saxon era! The museum encased many valuable historical items and artefacts, even bones, teeth and a concrete coffin! The Sutton Hoo helmet proved very popular and everyone had a go at

wearing it. We also got to play Nine Men’s Morris – a board game from the Dark Ages. All in all, a successful day spent immersed in amazing

historical facts. by Yahia Asfour and Lorcan Curley-Sanchez.

10 things at home!

English Competition Last Friday, four children from Year 6 (Lila Eve, Torsten

Greenan, Adam Havis and Lana Tseayo) attended the first round of the English Competition at Janet Duke Primary School. The

children took part in 7 different rounds, all based on Michael Morpurgo’s book: War Horse. The team worked together on

rounds ranging from a book quiz, a spelling activity through to a game of Taboo.

The children worked extremely well together and placed a fantastic second position with 94 points, only missing out of first

by 2 points! We will have to wait and see if the team make it through to the finals in July… fingers crossed!

Well done to our fabulous scholars and thank you to Miss Carroll for accompanying the children.

Boys’ Football

Thursday saw Buttsbury’s Year 5 football season resume, when two teams of Year 5 Boys played in the 7-a-side

Central Venue League tournament at the Mayflower High School. The two teams played against seven other schools

from Billericay, as well as each other, in the second of three CVL tournaments. The morning started with

Buttsbury A against Buttsbury B. Although the match ended a goalless draw, Buttsbury B were the stronger of

the two sides. After a highly competitive morning, Buttsbury A finished top of the table with five wins and three draws, having not conceded a goal throughout the

tournament. Buttsbury B finished in ninth place, with four wins and four narrow defeats. Outstanding sportsmanship

was displayed throughout, so congratulations to all who represented Buttsbury so well. A big thank you to Mrs

Neathercoat and Mr Blyth Tancock, who accompanied the teams and supported us throughout the morning.

Thank you also to Ms Marshall (A Team Manager) and Mr Tweedie (B Team Manager).

Friday 22nd March 2019 – BCT Art Exhibition

As part of our involvement with the Billericay Community Trust, ten of our gifted and talented artists in Year 6 have been working alongside a local artist to create a piece

of artwork involving water colours. The children have been given some excellent guidance and support from local artist, Michael, and we are very pleased to reveal our

final product! The artwork is soon to be available to view in St. Mary Magdalene Church in Billericay! The artists and their families are invited to a special private viewing this evening where they will be awarded with their certificate and special

badge. The Year 6 children have loved this experience and would like to pass on their thanks to Michael! Thank you to Michael, Mrs Lough, Mrs Andrews and Mrs Hennessey for supporting the children with this project! Thank you also to Mrs Abbott, for her

creative input and to Miss Pretty, who co-ordinated the whole project.
