CECIL B. KEENEMEMBER OF FLORIDA BOARD OF REGENTS/RETIRED COLLEGE ADMINISTRATOR
Cecil B. Keene, memberof the Florida State Board ofRegents, is known and re-spected throughout the educa-tional arena.He is the fourth AfricanAmerican to serve as a memberof the Florida Board of Regents.He was employed at St Pe-tersburg Junior College for 19years before retiring in 1987 . ,He was appointed director ofSpecial Services Program in1974 at the junior college andworked as an articulation officerfrom 1981 to 1984 and as a counselor from 1984 through 1987.He served as dean of students at Gibbs Junior College before itsmerger with St. Petersburg Junior College. Keen served as amember of the Florida Supreme Court Nominating Commission
from August, 1977 through July, 1980.He earned his bachelor's degree from Tuskegee Institute
and his master's degree from Atlanta University. He has donefurther study at the University of Miami, University of SouthFlorida and Florida A&M University.
Keene also served a short stint in the U.S. Army be-tween 1943 and 1947.
He attributes his success in his field to a life-long loveaffair with education - both as a student and as a teacher.
"More recently, I have worked closely with students inhelping them map their academic and career paths. I have par-ticipated in statewide educational organizations, all concernedwith articulation between colleges and universities," said Keene.
He is a member of the American Association of Coun-seling and Development, the Florida Association of Counselingand Development, Phi Delta Kappa and the Florida Associationof Community Colleges.
MESHACH TAYLORSTAR OF STAGE, SCREEN AND TELEVISION
Meshach Taylor, a na-tionally acclaimed actor, is theonly male cast member onCBS's "Designing Women"which is in its seventh season.
Meshach's love for acting ..developed at an early age. The , ison of two professors, he spentmost of his youth on the DillardUniversity campus in New Or-leans. It was there that he dis-covered old movies and the tal-ents of Fred Astaire. Taylorwas so moved by Astaire's sing-ing and dancing that he creditshim as the inspiration for hisbecoming an actor.
Taylor began studying acting in high school after his fami-ly moved to Indianapolis. As his love for the performing artsgrew, he decided to continue his studies at Wilmington Collegein Ohio, with the hope of being able to gain some strong actingexperience. This hope died quickly. Meshach found that therewas little opportunity for black actors in the program. Un-willing to see his dream fade away, he transferred to FloridaA&M in Tallahassee. After leaving FAMU, Taylor decided totake a break from acting, and returned to Indianapolis where heworked at a local radio station as a political correspondent.
Taylor's desire to perform never diminished, he auditioned
for the national touring company of "Hair," and was hired. Forthe next two years he traveled with the company. The tour's laststop was Chicago; and when the run concluded, Meshach de-cided to stay. While there, he became part of Chicago's Goodxxl-man Theatre, where his performance in "Sizwe Banzo is Dead"won him the Joseph Jefferson Award. Taylor also won a Chi-cago-area Emmy for his performance in the PBS production of"Huckleberry Finn;" and he hosted his. own talk show, "BlackLife," on the local NBC affiliate.
After eight years in Chicago, Taylor decided to try his luckin Hollywood. Upon moving, Taylor landed a role in the fea-ture film "Damien--Omen II." He also joined the WestwoodPlayhouse production of "Sizwe Banzo is Dead" and began mak-ing guest starring appearances on such series as "Barney Miller,"Lou Grant," The White Shadow" and "M A S H." As his suc-cess in Hollywood continued, Taylor landed a regular role on the"Buffalo Bill" series in which he co-starred with Dabney Cole-man and Geena Davis.
Taylor's credits also include co-staring roles in DavidMamet's "House of Games," the CBS telefilm "How to Murdera Millionaire" with Joan Rivers, and the hit comedies, "Man-nequin" and "Mannequin II... On The Move" in which he por-trayed the outrageous and flamboyant window dresser, 'Holly-wood.' Meshach also made a cameo appearance in "A ClassAct" for Warner Bros. and most recently guest starred in an epi-sode of "In The Heat of The Night" with Carroll O'Connor.

MOSES G. MILESPRESIDENT, FLORIDA A&M UNIVERSITY FOUNDATION
Moses G. Miles, a 1941graduate of Florida A&M Col-lege, received his M.A. degreefrom Ohio State University in1946. He is an outstanding na-tional personality and has beena staunch advocate for students ' dand for Florida A&M Uni-versity for more than fifty years.
At FAMU, he has servedas director of Men's Personnel,Commandant, Dean of Men,mathematics instructor, Directorof Public Relations, Director of,Student Activities and Dean ofStudents, respectively. He was very instrumental in the buildingof the Student Union Center. He has been the catalyst forchange that affected the quality of student life, organizations andactivities through the years. He was the students' greatest ad-vocate and disciplinarian.
He has been influential in obtaining alumni support for theUniversity, especially in times of dire need. He served as pres-
ident of the FAMU National Alumni Association at a time whenthe need to strengthen the alumni/administration relationshipwas indeed important and gave excellent leadership to the Cen-tennial Campaign. Currently, he is president of the FAMUFoundation, Inc. and uses his highly respected influence to main-tain alumni participation in fund-raising for the university.
Rev. Miles is a national personality within the religiousarena and serves as pastor of Philadelphia Primitive BaptistChurch, Tallahassee (since 1948). His appointments include:President of the Florida State Primitive Baptist Convention since1963, Secretary of the Board of Directors of the National Prim-itive Baptist Convention USA since 1956, and Executive Di-rector of National Primitive Baptist Publishing Board since1963.
Rev. Miles is the founder and was the first administrator ofMiracle Hill Nursing Home, Inc., in Tallahassee, and foundedthe Primitive Baptist Church Camp in Worthington Springs,Florida.
He is married to the former Willie Mac Danford and has adaughter, Andrea Marie Danford, and a son, Keith AlexanderMiles.
MINNIE McNEAL KENNYDIRECTOR, EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY NATIONAL SECURITY AGENCY
Minnie McNeal Kenny, is the Director for Equal Employ-ment Opportunity, National Security Agency.
Prior to her current position, Kenny was the Assistant Dep-uty Director for Administration from February, 1985 to March,1990, and also represented the Department of Defense on theCongressional Task Force on Women, Minorities and the Handi-capped in Sciences and Technology. Between 1981 and 1985,she served as the Deputy Assistant Director for Training andwas principally responsible for day-to-day management of theNational Cryptologic School. From 1975 to 1981, Kenney waschief of the Language and Linguistics Division, the Office ofTechniques and Standards and concurrently chaired the Lan-guage Career Panel and the DDO Language Advisory Com-mittee.
Kenny began her NSA career in 1952 and has served in avariety of technical and management positions. She holds pro-fessional certificates in cryptanalysis and in several languages of
Southeast Asia.She attended Martin College in Philadelphia and the Col-
lege of Notre Dame in Baltimore.She is the recipient of the Don Quijote Award from the Na-
tional Hispanic University; the Presidential Rank Award in thecategory of Meritorious Executive from former President GeorgeBush; and was a recipient in 1984 of the National SecurityAgency Exceptional Civilian Service Award.
Active in a variety of professional and civic organizations,she currently serves on the board of directors of U.S. UNIFEM,on the legislation committee of the National Federation of Busi-ness and Professional Women, Inc. and chairs the legislationcommittee of the International Federation of Business and Pro-fessional Women. Kenny, a native of Philadelphia, resides inColumbia Maryland. She has one daughter, a step-son, fivegrandsons and two granddaughters.

C. PETER MAGRATHPRESIDENT, NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF STATEUNIVERSITIES AND LAND GRANTCOLLEGES
C. Peter Magrath assumedthe presidency of the NationalAssociation of State Uni-versities and Land-Grant Col-leges (NASULGC) on January1, 1992. As CEO of the nation'soldest higher education associa-tion, Magrath represents NA-SULGC's member institutionsin Washington, D.C. and in ed-ucational settings around the na-tion on issues of national im-portance to the higher education,zommunity.
Founded in 1887, NA-SULGC is a voluntary associa-tion of 159 public research universities and land-grant collegeslocated in all 50 states and the U.S. territories. Its universitiesenroll over 2.7 million students, award about one-third of allbachelor's and master's degrees, and 60 percent of the doctoratesearned in the U.S. Magrath took over the leadership of NA-SULGC as the association charted a new course for the 1990'sby implementing a plan to reorganize and streamline its struc-ture.
As past president of three public universities, Magrath
brings a broad perspective on higher education to his current job.He has had a long history of leadership in international educa-tion activities, and in September, 1992, he was appointed by theNational Science Foundation to a Commission on the Future ofthe National Science Foundation, a 15-member group of sci-entists, industrialists and academic leaders charged with makingrecommendations to help chart future directions for the Founda-tion.
A political scientist with a Ph.D. degree from Cornell Uni-versity, he served as president of the University of Missouri Sys-tem from 1985-1991. Previously, he was president of the Uni-versity of Minnesota-with 60,000 students, the largest U.S.campus in terms of enrollment-from 1974-1984. Before that,Magrath headed the State University of New York at Bingham-ton from 1972-74. Missouri, Minnesota, and Binghamton all areNASULGC member institutions.
Between 1968-72, Magrath held faculty and administrativeposts at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln-also a NASULGCmember. He began his academic career at Brown University,where he rose from instructor to professor of political sciencefrom 1961-68, as well as serving as associate dean.
An author of numerous books, monographs and articles onAmerican Constitutional Law and history, higher education, andinternational affairs, he has been active on many national highereducation commissions, task forces and commiuttees.
