Sheboygan County to HoldPublic Open House for 2015 She-boygan County Outdoor Recre-ation and Open Space PlanThe Sheboygan County Planning& Conservation Department isholding a public open house togather input relating to parks, open spaces, and recreational op-portunities for the 2015 Sheboy-gan County Outdoor Recreationand Open Space Plan.

The Plan is an important toolfor local communities. It spellsout the future goals, priorities, and certain land use layouts baseddirectly on input from the resi-dents. Its update is especially im-portant since much of the currentPlan’s content is out-of-date and, even more critically, communitiesrely on the Plan for eligibility forcertain grants. A proposed projectmust be identified in a County’srecreation plan in order to receivepriority for State funding, which

has made many of the outdoor as-sets around the County possible.

To help form the Plan, Sheboy-gan County is asking area resi-dents to provide suggestions ontopics ranging from the best loca-tions of future parks, to the needfor new pathways, to the avail-ability of fishing opportunities. Please note that the Plan focuseson areas outside of the City ofSheboygan, which has its ownplan. Below are the details for the pub-lic open house. • Sheboygan County Administra-tion Building, Room 302• 508 New York Avenue, Sheboy-gan, WI 53081• 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM• Thursday, May 7, 2015

The districtgreatly appreciates its continued support. The unexpected passing of Bill Van Meer, Superinten-•dent of New Holstein School District, is sobering. Howhe spent his life’s time: teaching children, leadingschools, and building communities with prepared citi-zens, is reminder of the importance of staying focusedon, and true to, the school and community’s sharedpurpose.  This shared purpose began in the vision ofHorace Mann in the 19th century. Horace Mann estab-lished the American mindset that education shouldmore than learning for the advancement of sectarianends, that it be universal, non-sectarian, and free; andthat its purpose should include social efficiency, civicvirtue, and character. Kohler School District is anAmerican public school living in the vision of HoraceMann.  Before us tonight are board members, schoolleaders, teachers, and community members who join, with shared purpose, in the daily work of an Americanpublic school.
