With the recent announcement about the school, I have been approached with some con-fusions needing clarifications and I am sure you have many questions and inquiries as well. There are those that I am able to answer and there are those that can best be answered by the MSI team who will be taking over the school next year. For your questions about school matters (curriculum, enrollment, staffing, set-up, etc.) you can visit the official website www.olgschools.org. For clarifica-tions about the parish’s relation and connection to the school, you can drop them off at the office or write to [email protected]. Answers will be published in the bulletin in the coming weeks. But let me clarify right away about some confu-sion that was directed to me last week.

1. The parish continues to be called Saints Cyril and Methodius Parish. Only the school takes on a new name, Our Lady of Guadalupe, having two campuses: ours will be the Upper School (Grades 5-8 or also called western cam-pus) and the one in East Islip will be the Lower School (Grades 1-4 or also called the eastern campus). Both campuses will have their own pre-k, kindergarten and nursery programs. 2. The School will be regional in scope and composition and will involve our neighboring parishes. Financial subsidy and support will not just come from our parish but from participating parishes as well. The school can also actively

Page 5: May 2, 2021 - Saints Cyril & Methodius · 2021. 5. 1. · May 2, 2021 1st Reading: Acts of the Apostles 9:26-31 Paul is accepted by the apostles at Jerusa-lem. 2nd Reading: 1 John

Fr. Gius Garcia

campaign for enrollment in these parishes as well and will be collaborating with them on future fund-raisers. 3. Although the school will no longer be ours as a parochial school, we retain ownership of the property. And since we are not renting out the space to them, we are still able to use the school facili-ties outside of school hours for parish events and programs. 4. A regional school is normally managed by the participating parishes. But Our Lady of Guada-lupe is not regional in this sense. Instead it will be operated and lead by the Morning Star Initiative and the Department of Education of the diocese as a pilot project. The school is in good hands know-ing that the Marianist brothers who are spearheading this project is the same congregation who have made Chaminade High School, Kellenberg Memorial High School and St. Martin de Porres Marianist School thriving centers for quality Catholic education and formation in Long Island.

Mother’s Day Spiritual Bouquet To Our Blessed Mother

On Mother’s Day weekend, May 8 & 9th, please join us in offering a spiritual bouquet to Our Blessed Mother. Following each Mass, all are invited to Our Lady of the Innocents Statue here inside our church, where there will be pens and paper for you to write down a prayer intention. There will also be flowers for you to offer to Our Lady in thanksgiving for her maternal care. After writing down your intention, take a flower, and present both to Our Blessed Mother at the Our Lady of Innocents statue in the Vases and Intention box provided. As we celebrate the gift of mothers and honor Our Blessed Mother, we also recognize that Mother’s Day can be a difficult holiday for many. We hope this spiritual bouquet provides an opportunity to pray for the intentions in your heart today.

Pope Francis calls each of us to be instruments of Jesus’ love and compassion to those in need. Journeying together with Long Island’s faithful, we have the opportunity to act on this call through our support of the Catholic Ministries Appeal (CMA). When we support the CMA, we are working together to create pathways of love and compassion by providing programs that serve disadvantaged families, our senior citizens, those struggling with substance abuse and those in need of housing. Additionally, the Catholic Ministries Appeal helps lay paths of evangelization through the formation of our priests, deacons and lay leaders. It assists in training our religious education catechists and adult faith formation leaders who educate our youth and parish families, and programs that promote the sanctity of life at all stages. Working together, we are all enriching the lives of all Long Island.

HELP US TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Every year through the support and commitment of individuals and organizations, we are able to serve more than 600,000 people in our Long Island community. The Catholic Ministries Appeal enables our Church to continue to form our youth and adults in the faith, promote dignity of life, provide quality education to our young people, feed the hungry, and foster vocations to the priesthood. Your generosity helps to make all of this, and so much more, possible! Thank you for your support.

Family Faith Formation and Religious Education Weekly Greeting from Ms. Laucella

Happy May, everyone! As hard as it is to believe, I am so excited to share with all of you that we have officially started Easter Sacraments! This weekend, on Saturday, May 1st, my first two groups of Level 2 students received the Sacrament of First Holy Communion! I am SO PROUD of them, and so look forward to sharing these days with our remaining students and their families these next few weeks! Please be sure to keep these boys and girls and their loved ones in your prayers this month!

FORMED Recommendations As we continue to celebrate the Easter Season together, I am still sharing with all of you “After The Search”, “FORMED’s Daily Reflections”, “He is Risen!” and “Born Into the Kingdom” from FORMED’s Easter collection! Use the QR codes below to take you directly to each video series; Just scan with your phone in the camera app to start watching, and enjoy!

March Family Project: Saint Joseph Movie Night! This weekend of May 1st is the perfect time for me to share with all of you our Program ’s Family Project for March! With March 19th being the first Feast Day of Saint Joseph, our family activity for March was to choose one of the two Saint Joseph movies that we shared from FORMED: “Joseph of Nazareth” and “Saint Joseph: The Obedience”, and have a movie night as a family at home! Our families had so much fun learning more about Saint Joseph, complete with snacks, comfy clothes, and sharing time together! With May 1st being the second Feast Day of Saint Joseph, I am so excited to feature and share with all of you the family movie nights of the Alarcon, Dias, Goldberg, and Perez families! You can see more of our families’ fun on our Program’s Instagram page!

Names and their donors will be posted on the Bulletin Board by the elevator in the near future to be our reviewer and also to acknowledge the donors of the tiles.
