O, God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit, did instruct the

Happy Pentecost! Our Church’s birthday is today! Middle school youth group is hav-ing their annual picnic today. It will be at the grotto at five pm. Please invite your middle schoolers to have fun, eat, and share in the joy of Pentecost.
The last few weeks we have been conducting the Children’s Liturgy of the Word at the eleven am English and one pm Spanish Masses. I want to encourage parents who have children ages five to nine to please let your children come and experience for themselves the beauty of a liturgy designed to meet their needs. If they are a little younger or older and want to experience this liturgy first hand we welcome them. Parents are always invited as well.
There are some really powerful works of the Holy Spirit taking place in these liturgies. Your children are opening up to the readings, asking questions, singing the psalm and the Alleluia, learning the Apostle’s Creed not only in word but also in sign, and praying for their families (and even their pets!). I am amazed at their participation and most especially, their joy. These dear young ones are growing in their faith and becoming an evangelizing community. As Pope Francis writes in The Joy of the Gospel, "an evangelizing community is filled with joy; it knows how to rejoice always. It celebrates at every small victory, every step forward in the work of evangelization. Evangelization with joy becomes beauty in the liturgy, as part of our daily concern to spread goodness. The Church evangelizes and is herself evangelized through the beauty of the liturgy, which is both a celebration of the task of evangelization and the source of her renewed self-giving.”(24)
When we talk together during the reflection over the readings, they are full of ideas on how they can take the Gospel out into the world in their daily lives as proclaimers of Christ. “Proclaiming Christ means showing that to believe in and to follow him is not only something right and true, but also something beautiful, capable of filling life with new splendor and pro-found joy, even in the midst of difficulties.” (167) A few weeks ago we were talking together about loving our neighbor as Jesus loves us. I was touched by the answers that they gave as to who they would have difficulty showing love to. By the end of our time together that day, they were all resolved to go to that person after Mass and show them Jesus’ love. It is thrilling to glimpse their joy and excitement when they realize how they can become the hands and feet of Christ in their daily lives!
In this world that seems at times so dark and dreary, our little children are providing a spark of hope and joy. We can learn much from our children even as we help educate them in our Catholic faith. They are witnesses to the power of the Gospel to teach and transform. I ask for your prayers for all the young ones attending the Children’s Liturgy of the Word, that they may bear much fruit as joyful disciples of our Master, Jesus!
Your fellow worker in Christ, Chris

Dear Parishioners,
Congratulations to our 8th grade graduates from our school. Also congratulations to all of our
high school graduates. We are proud of them and we pray the good Lord will always guide
them along his pathways of peace. Thanks you to all who have played such an important part
in bringing our young men and women to this important juncture in their lives. God bless them
all.
In two short weeks we will be celebrating a very important annual tradition. The annual Solemn Corpus Christi Eucha-
ristic Bi-lingual Mass and procession will be June 3rd, Sunday, beginning at 11:00am at the grotto, weather permitting.
This procession will make the traditional six altars with benediction at each.
Following the procession, we will honor Tom Alessio, Helen Bell, James Garcia, Joyce Leto, John Piper, and Robert
Sereg. This year’s Pillars of the Parish Awards will conferred at a luncheon immediately following the procession, in the
parish hall. The Hispanic community will be providing the lunch. All are invited.
Have a Blessed week.
