Dear Bishop Stang Friends & Families:
As we continue the Easter season, the month of May will certainly not be the same without the excitement in the air that always surrounds the emergence of Spring, Spartans competing on our fields, the Spring Musical, the last days for seniors and their hopes for the future, Prom and After-Prom. The sprint to the end of the year is always quickened by the excite-ment these events bring.
While facing the difficult reality of continuing our work from home, let us be more appreciative, supportive, hopeful, joyful, prayerful and mindful of those who are struggling the most. In this moment especially, we have an opportunity to transcend what is ordinary and common. How we respond may never bring public notice or acclaim, but God will know. Let us not forget that God is our first and most important audience.
Our prayers continue for the first responders and our entire Bishop Stang community. May God continue to bless our Spartan family!

Career Visits
In the Spring of 2020, we moved to online instruction before our Alumni Career Q&A Sessions began. Amazingly, we were able to quickly move them online as well, and now we have the ability to include alumni from other areas of the state and country! Sessions have already been held with medical student Owen Leary ’14, as well as Ross Ketschke ’14, who is a reporter for NBC in Burlington, Vermont, Matthew Gagnon ‘13, a Police Officer in Boston, and Angelina Jay ’05 who is an engineer and an instructor at MIT. Next up is a session with Drew Makin ’88 who is an architect in Washington DC. More sessions are already being scheduled.
Zoom Forward to Monday, May 4th @ 1:30pm - when Andrew Makin '88 will talk with the students about his career in Architecture!
Contact Mrs. Nicole Dias for a Zoom link if your child is interested in joining this event! Check out the Virtual Career Chat that our students held with Ross Ketschke ’14 about his path to becoming a Broadcast Journalist HERE!
College Visits
With college campuses closed, the school counseling department has begun hosting virtual college information sessions. This is an excellent way to begin the process that many of you would have been doing in person this time of year. We’ve had visits with UMass Boston, Roger Williams, Saint Anselm College, Salve Regina University, Curry College, Providence College, Framingham State, Stonehill College, University of Rhode Island, Bridgewater State, Sacred Heart, Assumption College and Regis College. We keep adding more—it is a growing list!
Our Next visit will be with WPI on Friday, May 1st and then Boston University ROTC on Wednesday, May 6th!
Emails are sent to students regarding each session, along with a link to join. Contact Mrs. Nicole Dias if your student is interested in learning more about these schools, and opening a dialogue with their admissions officers.

in Our Student’s Eyes Recently, the students from Mrs. Pimentel's Theology I and III classes wrote reflections on COVID-19 and social distancing from the perspective of faith. They then transformed their writing into "word clouds" to depict the major themes of their reflections. The results highlight our students' honest insight, strong faith, and extraordinary creativity!

Supporting Bishop Stang
Spartan Raffle Calendar Winners!
Every Fall, Bishop Stang asks our students and families to help support our school by selling calendars containing raffle tickets. While it may not seem like a big deal when the kids are work hard to rally the support of family and neighbors with pleas to buy a calendar, sales of these
calendars actually help us raise around $35,000 annually for our school. So THANK YOU for your efforts in providing this tremendous support! To date we have awarded $9,500 to winners, with two more months of cash prizes to come! Meet the Grundners from Cincinnati, Ohio. Phil and Rachael were our March 25, 2020 $100 raffle prize winners. They used their prize to buy some games to make their time at home a little more fun. Congratulations to all of our winners so far and THANK YOU for supporting our school!

AN UPDATE ABOUT OUR
NON-PROFIT PARTNERS
Bishop Stang has been long dedicated to teaching important values through community service. We wanted to share what is going on with a two of our closest partner non-profits that have taught so many students about giving back, as they continue to work to help the most vulnerable in our community.
My Brother’s Keeper My Brother’s Keeper pro-vides furniture and food to local families in need and brings “the Love and Hope of Jesus Christ” to those they serve. All are eligible to receive help, regardless of religion. Their services are provided free of charge and without judgment. Due to the COVID-19 virus, MBK has changed their focus to meeting the basic needs families by providing critical food and supplies. Click Here to read about it. They work with the Greater Boston Food Bank to identify those in need and to distribute the goods. Both organizations rely on donors to pursue their missions. Give to My Brother’s Keeper Here, or the Greater Boston Food Bank Here.
Gifts to Give GiftsToGive relies solely on volunteer workers. They are “building a new currency for philanthropy...by building a more caring community, focused on local child pov-erty, literacy, service to others and giv-ing.” At Gifts to Give, they call it “Tangible Philanthropy and Big Citizen-ship.” Gifts to Give collects gently used clothing, toys and books from families to benefit children in need, and provides service learning opportunities to families, clubs, schools and corporate groups. Due to the nature of their operations, they are temporarily closed. However, they still have operational expenses, so if you want to support this organization so they can keep serving our community, you can Donate to Gifts to Give Here.

Dude Be Nice Week -
from a Distance! (May 4th - May 8th)
No quarantine can halt the compassion of the Bishop Stang Student Council. The
Council is determined to once again spread the spirit of gratitude and hope they have
been promoting in their annual Dude Be Nice Week. The weeklong event is a tradition
at Bishop Stang, encouraging an awareness of the importance of kindness in the world,
celebrating every member of Spartan Village through daily activities. Since the stay-at-
home advisory was issued, the student officers have been working diligently gathering
feedback from their peers and administration to put together their program for Dude Be
Nice Week, which will take place in the upcoming week of May 4th-May 8th. Council
President Myles Forgue shares, “I am incredibly proud of our team because we are
working to share hope, and have continued to innovate, inspire, and uplift. All of our
student leaders embody the Spartan Spirit of service. I am grateful to work with such
risk takers and difference makers!”
The Student Council Executive Board is ecstatic to share its program for the Dude Be
Nice Week. Tune into our weeklong festivities over the Bishop Stang social media and
the Student Council Instagram (@bshs_stuco)!
Monday, “Custodian Appreciation Day”: A question box and graphic
will be posted to the Bishop Stang Instagram story asking students who
they admire and who are their role models. Secretary Emma Pimentel and
Treasurer Carlo Acosta will also produce a video thanking the custodians
for their diligent work to be sent via email.
Tuesday, “Teacher and Staff Appreciation Day”: Vir tual Thank You
cards will be posted by students to thank essential workers for their contin-
ued commitment throughout the pandemic.. All students and staff can par-
ticipate by taking a picture of them holding a poster thanking essential
workers, and submitting their photo to the Bishop Stang Instagram. Student
Council Members will be virtually demonstrating their gratitude for ALL
faculty and staff through virtual letters, thank-you cards, digital drawings,
and video messages. President Myles Forgue hopes to create a collage of
the essential worker virtual thank-you cards.
Wednesday, “Care for the Environment Day” An instagram poll will
be posted where students will share their favorite quarantine snacks and
songs. Furthermore, the Student Council will actively promote the Bishop
Stang Green Team’s 22 day challenge to take better care of the environ-
ment.
Thursday, “Matt Benoit Day”: In honor of the Spar tan spir it of Matt
Benoit, students will be encouraged to collaborate with other students to
create a school-appropriate Tik-Tok to celebrate kindness, wellness, and
joy throughout this time. We will encourage submissions of those Tik-Toks
to the Bishop Stang social media.
Friday, “Fun Fr iday.” Students will be encouraged to go outside and
enjoy the weather to promote personal wellness amongst the student body.
A very special surprise is in place!

IMPORTANT UPDATE
The event will not be held in 2020. We value your support of this annual golf tournament, and
look forward to next year!
From The Athletics Department
Hello to all Spartans & Spartan Families!
We hope you are well! Our head coaches
in the Athletic Department put our minds
together, & we came up with a few ideas
in the hopes of keeping everyone active
and keeping it positive!
In April we challenged Spartan Village to
the "Spartan 30 Day Fitness Challenge”
where we offered five different workouts,
one for each weekday of the week. Across the five workouts, we aimed for flexi-
bility, agility, upper body strength, core strength, and lower body strength. Ath-
letes and families worked together to keep up their health and fitness and have
fun!
In May we will be offering a Spartan 5K Challange to students & families who
are looking for a program to complete. Others can jump in and grab a workout
when you are looking for one. We will post each workout in Google Classroom,
and we also will make them available on Instagram. Collaborate with your
friends! Compete with your friends! Just get going & get after it Spartans!
Please feel free to share the workouts with family and friends over social media,
and share pictures of you (and your families) completing the workouts using
#SpartanPride. Spring athletes, email your coaches, and let them know how you
are doing!
STAY TUNED FOR DETAILS!
Take care, be safe, & Go Spartans!
