Members of the PHS Band have spent the winter learning music from the Harmony Bridge collec-tion. These four and five part folk songs have been arranged by members of the Dallas Brass to be played specifically for smaller instrumental groupings.

In March 2021, students were invited to attend weekly evening rehearsals. During this time, stu-dents work on their music with their counterparts. This has been a positive experience for the students, as they have not been able to see each other due to the current two-day hybrid instruction model. Almost 50 Parkland Band members have been regularly attending these Wednesday evening rehearsals and work-ing in small groups - led by several of the band’s Junior and Senior section leaders. We hope to be able to showcase these groups in a future performance!

Parkland Band once again had a very successful year for students qualifying for band and orchestra festivals sponsored by the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) and the National Association for Music Education (NAfME). Students were selected for the following festivals based on recorded audi-tions that were then submitted for adjudication:

Congratulations to all of these amazing and talented students!

Next year’s PHS Marching Band Camp will be held August 23rd - September 3rd. Specific times can be found by logging into the band website at www.charmsoffice.com. Use the school code PKLNDHSBAND and your child’s Parkland ID number. We hope to have a back-to-normal band camp at the end of this summer, so please mark your calendars! If restrictions persist we will adapt accordingly. A reminder that students must attend band camp to be part of the fall field show. In addition, the fall performance sched-ule is listed on the band calendar. All Band students must participate in all listed performances.

From Mr. Mishler: Congratulations to the following students for making the 2021 PMEA All State Orchestra: The Honors Orchestra finished their first recording of Gustav Holst's St. Paul's Suite earlier in the 3rd quarter, while the string quartet recorded the first movement of the Schubert Quar-tet in D Major. The Honors Orchestra is now working on a performance of Mendelssohn's String Symphony No. 12, and Vaughn Williams Fantasia on a Theme of Thomas Tallis. The Advanced Honors Orchestra is working on the final movement of the Tchaikovsky Serenade for Strings and the Bach Triple Concerto, featuring senior soloists, Suchir Agarwal, Vio-lin; Alex Tang, harpsichord; and Sabrina Collings, flute.

Auditions for PHS Strolling Strings will take place in the

beginning of June for the 21-22 season.

Indoor Percussion: This year for Indoor Percussion, our students have been working hard and passionately to-wards the creation of our exhibition show. Considering Indoor Percussion is normally a group that goes out in competition, the fact the students have been pushing themselves and are excited for more is a testament to their great attitude and determination as musicians. Our staff have been thoroughly impressed with our non-percussion players trying this activity for the first time, learning instruments and skills they've never experi-enced before. The group has made excellent progress in the craft of percussive playing and marching and gives me great confidence that our program will continue to flourish despite these trying times. Mr. Tanzos
