Principal’s Message Finish Strong I have been in this business now for 22 years, and the predictable ebbs and flows and the highs and lows within a school year never cease to amaze me. Why do we let up or start to pack it in, as the end nears? Is it the weather? Human nature? Are we just that red? It seems inevitable, but in reality I truly believe our response to “the end” is controllable and manageable. It takes will, it takes atude and, most importantly, it takes some self evaluaon of where you are at, to make a change, and finish strong. The following is an adapted excerpt from a newsleer I receive from an organizaon called Proacve Coaching. The founder, Bruce Brown, is a renowned teacher, coach and mentor. “The end of the school year is crazy. One of the lessons our athletes should have learned from their coaches and teachers is to finish strong. Graduaon is an excing me, but as a teacher, coach and parent, this me of year always worries me. There are way too many stories of poor decisions that lead to school discipline or even horrible accidents. High school seniors, you only have a few days or weeks leſt. Finish strong! If you have a parent, teacher, coach or teammates who trust and believe in you, maintain that trust by choosing the hard right over the easy and convenient wrong. Coaches, this is a good me to reconnect with your athletes to remind them how much they mean to you and that on great teams, the standards apply for life not just during the season. It might just take not wanng to let someone who loves them down to keep them safe. Almost everyone is in favor of high standards, expectaons and rules for our stu- dent/athletes at the start of the season, but too many parents want an excepon when it turns out to be their son or daughter. Which lesson best represents your family … that nor- mal rules don’t apply to us or that poor decisions have consequences? Own it, learn from it and move forward.” The message is true, not just for graduates, but all students—finish strong! The Senior Boysrsquo Rugby team enjoyed a great season after four years of rebuilding interest in the rugby program A small core of players began playing Junior Boys Rugby as Grade 9 athletes against mostly Grade 10rsquos TeacherCoach Jim Tonks welcomed the return of teacher coach Simon Quinto (also a for-mer Centennial player) and additional assistant coaches from United Rugby Club With many rook-ies (Grades 10 11 amp 12) who also committed to numerous days of practices and games in cold and wet weather the entire team developed very quickly into skilled players who got better with every game They captured the SD 43 Senior Boysrsquo Championship with a win over Terry Fox in late April Last weekend the team headed into the Fraser Valley AAA Tier II Championship against Seaquam (Delta) with an undefeated record (8-0-1) They were victorious in the final match and can claim to be Fraser Valley AAA Tier II Champions

SENIOR GIRLS SOCCER

The team had a very competitive season They started off by participating in the Guildford Park tourna-ment followed by a two day trip to Victoria The Victoria games along with a training session led by UVic head coach Tracy David got the team well prepared for the league season The Centaurs finished fourth in a very tight FV North league where one point separated second from fourth place The squad then entered the Fraser Valley playoffs unfortunately being eliminated before qualifying for Provin-cials Best wishes go out to our ten graduating players Next yearrsquos youthful squad will be looking to fill your shoes
