by Sara Wittmayer, Irle School The Glasgow High School ceramics class was lucky enough to collaborate on a project with Mrs. Smith’s first-grade classroom. The ceramics class visited the first-grade classroom, where they read “I Need My Monster” by Amanda Noll. It is a book about a monster named Gabe, who takes the night off to go fishing, and his Boy Eathan, who can’t sleep without Gabe’s scary sounds. A line of characters begin to file in to fill Gabe’s spot, but

none of the other monsters are quite scary enough. After reading the book, a student from the high school was paired with a first grader, and together they drew a picture of what the first grader believed to be the best monster. The high school students then took the drawings back to the ceramic class, and over the next few weeks sculpted the monster to the best of their ability. There were some accidents involving dropping or bumping and breaking monsters. But thanks to a couple of students who stepped up and made an extra monster, the class was able to provide one monster

for each first grader even if the monster was not exactly the same as the one the first grader drew. After all the monsters were bisque fired, the first graders were invited up to

the high school to glaze the monsters. The monsters are currently on display at the Glasgow City-County Library and will be returned to the first-grade owners by the end of the school year.

“Green Decoys” Celebrate Obama’s “Waters of the U.S.” RuleThe liberal “green decoy” front groups were right out of the gate Wednesday morning touting President Obama’s new “Waters of the US” regulations. (And, who would be surprised if the major newspapers in the state were quick to equivocate the statements from these liberal environmental special interest groups with the opposition from legitimate farm and ranch groups?)

Of course, this wouldn’t be the first astro-turf attempt to give the appearance of public support for the new EPA regulations, as The Daily Signal previously reported.

The Daily Signal: EPA’s Shocking Actions to Gain Support for Its Water RuleAccording to The New York Times, “Late last year, the EPA sponsored a drive on Facebook and Twitter to promote its proposed clean water rule in conjunction with the Sierra Club.”The Environmental Protection Agency also developed a video to promote the rule, asking the question “Do you choose clean water?” As if critics of the rule want dirty water. On top of this, McCarthy has dismissed some public concerns about the rule as “ludicrous” and “silly.”As seen through these examples, the Environmental Protection Agency has been acting more like an advocacy group than a federal agency that is supposed to welcome comments from all sides. It has tried to influence the comments that were received. When the agency uses its massive resources to get support for its rule, it shouldn’t be a surprise when it receives comments that support the rule.
