TO OUR PARISHIONERS FROM FATHER JUDE

Oh Holy Spirit! How well we need you. Thou, of all Consolers best Visit the troubled breast

Dost, refreshing peace bestow Thou in toil art Comfort Sweet Pleasant coolness in the heat

Solace in the midst of woe. (Author: Robert 11, King of France) Note: This is a stanza from the hymn, “Holy Spirit, Lord of Light, from thy clear celestial height.”

Hurray!!! The commemoration of the fulfillment of the promise of the Father comes around again. A promise made long ago by many prophets and especially by Prophet Isaiah 44:3-4, “I will pour out water upon the thirsty land and streams upon the dry ground…I will pour out my spirit upon your offspring, and they shall grow like willows by flowing streams…” Hello my fellow Christians and parishioners of St. Bernard Parish. How wonderful and exciting to know that this beautiful day is almost with us again. It is the birthday of the Church! It is our own spiritual birthday, so to speak. It is the Pentecost! Our journey together through Easter brings us to this great day which also marks the end of the Easter season. Although, the Easter season ends with it, but each and every one of us can still have our own Pentecost as long as life goes on. This powerful and gentle Spirit is always seeking us and desiring to fill us more and more to the brim as often as the need and the right disposition is available. Oh! How the world needs you desperately, and how everyone needs you, most refreshing and consolers best. These most unique and challenging times ever to be experienced by the world at the same time, are quite unprecedented. At the beginning of January this year, people had lofty plans to execute during the year, and we had looked forward with anticipation and enthusiasm to celebrating the Holy season of Lent which culminates at the great Easter celebration. These celebrations, such as the ones we had, were never expected because of the COVID-19 pandemic and the untold scourge it left on its path. Consequently, it has created for us and the world, an uncharted path with its new and challenging future which we must go through together. Such huge monster has thrown everyone off-balance with the intention of taking away our focus from the Almighty Father’s plan for the world. However, this shall never happen to us Christians because we remain, strong, resilient, focused and resolute, all due to you. Oh Holy Spirit, our welcome Friend and soul’s delightful Guest. We all need you. Every family needs you. Parents need you. Administrators and leaders in positions need you. The Church and her members need you. All in different professions and careers need you. Oh Spirit of light, come with your sevenfold gifts and fill your children with these treasures from on High, and make us good people, who will join forces with you to recreate the world and make it a better place for all. Heal all wounds; heal all broken relationships with your dynamic and amazing love, and peaceful presence, thou who is all consolers best. Cast your pure light on our darkness and blurred visions of reality and fill us with your holy light so that all our plans and decisions may always be infused with your holy inspirations and lead to completion.

Therefore, my dear friends with open hands and generous hearts let us prepare ourselves to welcome this most welcome guest and soul’s delightful friend. Happy birthday to everyone, all on this day.

God bless you, Fr. Jude

FORMED

Welcome to Lectio and Acts and the New Evangelization in FORMED. What’s being highlighted for your watching is Lectio: Evangelization Session 6 the Sacraments And The Spirit with Dr. Mary Healy, Associate Professor of Sacred Scripture, Sacred Heart Major Seminary. When we believe in Jesus we become a full member of His Church. Pentecost was a turning point in salvation history as God pours out His Spirit - it’s the birthday of the Church. How do the Sacraments impact our spiritual life and work? You’ll study the power of the Holy Spirit and Divine life, who comes in a mighty way as an outpouring on Pentecost and births the Church. You’ll see that it is through the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and the Eucharist) that we are born to new life as sons and daughters of God and co-heirs with Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit. Be IN-FORMED. Submitted weekly by a St. Bernard Parishioner
