Let Us Share the Holy Spirit and the Fruit of His Love As a Church and community we have commemorated,

celebrated and confessed that Jesus Christ died, rose from the dead, ascended into heaven, and now, because He doesn’t want us to be alone, fulfilled his promise and sent the Holy Spirit upon us. The Holy Spirit came to us as the Church of God to strengthen, to protect, and to make us holy while exercising the fruits of His love.

It is Pentecost -- fifty days after the resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus went up to sit at the right hand of God the Father, but He never abandoned us. He went to the throne of heaven to show us the way and to lead us into His glory; where Jesus, the Head of the Church has gone, His body, the Church, will follow. During our time as pilgrims in this world we need His presence until the end of time through His gift of the Holy Spirit.

Now we have to ask ourselves what am I doing with this gift in my life? How is the Holy Spirit transforming my whole existence and making me at this time a real disciple of the Gospel? The strength we receive from the Holy Spirit and all His seven gifts (wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord) are for us as we work as laborers in God's Kingdom.

During this time of the pandemic we have a real challenge; what is God asking me to do at this time? How can I be a worker in building his Church and Kingdom under these specific circumstances? We need to be united in prayer, to help and support each other, to share words of encouragement and hope to every brother and sister, and we need to be generous to those who are struggling to provide for their needs.

At this time of the pandemic we are being called to show mercy and solidarity, to witness the presence of the Holy Spirit and share His fruit of Love. The Spirit of God is love and being carriers of the Holy Spirit is being carriers of God's Love.

May the Lord bless you and may the Blessed Mother, help of Christians, protect you. Fr. Javier

Our usual hard working crew, Chris Dalton, Wayne Emley, Ken Orechio, Tom

Clemente, Rick Harrison, Bob Juliano, Mike Beson, Phil Hinck and Joan Wegland unloaded a big delivery from Fulfill on Monday, May 18th, using every inch of

freezer and refrigerator space for the meats, eggs and frozen fruit. They sorted and bagged two bags for each family in preparation for Wednesday.

(That came to 240 X 2 = 480 bags.) Each family also took home a "refrigerator bag"

with eggs, chicken or other protein, and frozen fruit.

We were grateful this week to receive a large donation from the Rotary Club of Greater Long Branch.

Their gift will help us purchase food we cannot obtain from Fulfill.

A woman, whose brother was a member of Auggie's "Long Branch All Stars", donated a trunk filled with food in memory of

Auggie DeVito. Thanks also goes to our Holy Name Society for the frozen lasagna and soup they donated for the families who visit us.

A representative of the NFL Alumni collected a large donation of food. Mr. Ricardo Cifuentes brought a huge donation of 250 loaves of bread

from Joe Leone's in Point Pleasant. Thank you, Mary Ann McKenzie, for helping to bag the bread.

There are so many people who have helped with checks

and food donations -- we use every penny and every can or box. Thank you ALL.

Thank you to Fr. Javier and Fr. Fernando for remembering the pantry workers at Mass.

With God's help and with everyone working together, we plan to open again next

“We fly to your protection, O Holy Mother of God”. In the present tragic situation, when the whole world is prey to suffering and anxiety, we fly to you, Mother of God and our Mother, and seek refuge under your protection.

Virgin Mary, turn your merciful eyes towards us amid this coronavirus pandemic. Comfort those who are distraught and mourn their loved ones who have died, and at times are buried in a way that grieves them deeply. Be close to those who are concerned for their loved ones who are sick and who, in order to prevent the spread of the disease, cannot be close to them. Fill with hope those who are troubled by the uncertainty of the future and the consequences for the economy and employment.

Mother of God and our Mother, pray for us to God, the Father of mercies, that this great suffering may end and that hope and peace may dawn anew. Plead with your divine Son, as you did at Cana, so that the families of the sick and the victims be comforted, and their hearts be opened to confidence and trust. Protect those doctors, nurses, health workers and volunteers who are on the frontline of this emergency, and are risking their lives to save others. Support their heroic effort and grant them strength, generosity and continued health.

Be close to those who assist the sick night and day, and to priests who, in their pastoral concern and fidelity to the Gospel, are trying to help and support everyone. Blessed Virgin, illumine the minds of men and women engaged in scientific research, that they may find effective solutions to overcome this virus. Support national leaders, that with wisdom, solicitude and generosity they may come to the aid of those lacking the basic necessities of life and may devise social and economic solutions inspired by farsightedness and solidarity.

Mary Most Holy, stir our consciences, so that the enormous funds invested in developing and stockpiling arms will instead be spent on promoting effective research on how to prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future. Beloved Mother, help us realize that we are all members of one great family and to recognize the bond that unites us, so that, in a spirit of fraternity and solidarity, we can help to alleviate countless situations of poverty and need. Make us strong in faith, persevering in service, constant in prayer. Mary, Consolation of the afflicted, embrace all your children in distress and pray that God will stretch out his all-powerful hand and free us from this terrible pandemic, so that life can serenely resume its normal course. To you, who shine on our journey as a sign of salvation and hope, do we entrust ourselves, O Clement, O Loving, O Sweet Virgin Mary.

Reopening of Church for Private Prayer

Please Observe These Directives

1. Our Lady Star of the Sea Church is open only for private prayer every day from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

2. Only 10 persons are allowed in the Church at any given time.

3. Please don’t touch anything if possible. Keep your hands together in prayer position (it will help you).

4. Everyone must wear mask (gloves are recommended) for all prayer visits.

5. The Parking Lot (handicap) Entrance is the only door to be used.

6. Social distancing of six feet is to be observed. 7. After pew is used, leave the kneeler down so area can be

disinfected. Do not sit in a pew if the kneeler is down. 8. The public restrooms are closed and locked. 9. No public gatherings outside church, on its steps, or in

parking lot. These directives pertain to the reopening of Church for private prayer. Other plans regarding Mass will be communicated when they are developed. Following these rules will help our parish to remain open. Thanks for caring and for your cooperation.
