Now that the weather is finally warming up you will start seeing some of the projects that we marked last year as part of Renew & Rebuild beginning to be accomplished. We are waiting for final approval from the Archdiocese to advance us the funds to repair the stairs leading up to the convent, which is the future home of St. Ann’s School Pre-Kindergarten 3 program. As you know, we are expanding St. Ann’s School next year by introducing a program for 3-year-olds. We have been promised more Universal Pre-K classes by the City of Yonkers, which increases our enrollment as well. We have plans to turn the side lawn of the school on Ambrose Place into a playground for the younger children. We are installing solar panels on the school at no cost to us; in fact, we will be the first parish in the Archdiocese to have solar panels installed through the new archdiocesan solar energy project. This will take place over the summer while school is out. At the same time, we will be replacing the old air conditioners on the school roof, which the solar panel group suggested should be done simultaneously with their work. Once the work on the roof is completed, we will have the parking lot at the school completely redone. Once again, it was recommended that this be held off until after all the work on the roof is done.

We also will finally be repairing the chimneys on the school and convent, which have been secured with plywood and straps since before my time here at St. Ann’s. I have already signed contract to have the smaller air conditioner units on the property replaced. That work will begin shortly. We will also replace the totally dead unit in the school cafeteria, which has not worked during my time here. It was one of the less necessary projects that I planned to have done when funds permitted, and Renew & Rebuild offered us the perfect opportunity to improve this portion of our school. The air conditioners in the main church and the chapel are located on the roof, so we need a little more planning as to when the work can be done on them. I am still soliciting more bids for the refinishing of the church and the re-caulking of the church windows. All of this is being made possible by your generous gifts to Renew & Rebuild. Thank you so much to all of you who made pledges. All I need from you now is to fulfill your pledges so that our dreams will become a reality.
