Spring cannot come soon enough this year. Most of you are aware that I supported an increase to the snow and ice budget for an increase in residential service, but it was defeated at budget time. The combined weather events of this season have given the City of Saskatoon many challenges to work through, and I can assure you we will learn from this season to help better prepare for the future. Thank you to all the citizens of Saskatoon for your patience as we struggled with the long winter, above average snowfall, numerous major weather events and unusual freeze-thaw cycles.

Please feel free to email me any ideas or best practices that you may

be aware of from other municipalities with respect to snow and ice.

If you are interested in receiving regular emails from me that include council agendas and decisions, public service announcements and other civic information, please drop me an email and I can add you to the local neighbourhood database. All email addresses remain confidential and you can ask to be removed at any time.

Please ensure that all correspondence that you send to me or any city department identifies you by name, civic address and phone number.

President’s message Well this has certainly been a winter to remember. All of us have

struggled through snowfalls that have nearly buried the neighborhood and made it more difficult than ever to get around our streets. Yet through all of this we have now entered spring and soon enough that snow will be gone and our neighbourhoods will go through their annual spring renewal.

This spring there is a sense of greater renewal than usual. As we progress through the Local Area Plan for Mayfair and Kelsey-Woodlawn and the development of the 33rd Street Business Improvement District, these initiatives bring the promise of long-term renewal for our community. And as the land shakes off the icy grip of winter we will see a greening of our community and the cleanup of what winter has left behind will begin. As we clean up our community after a long and harsh winter I would encourage everyone

who is able to to look to the beautification of our area by putting in gardens, flowers, fruits or even hanging baskets, not only in our homes, but also in our businesses and schools. In this way all of us will be able to contribute to the beauty and vitality of our community.

I hope that each and every one of you can enjoy that renewal and see the hope for our community.   Robert Rudachyk, president, Hudson Bay Park/Mayfair/$ $ Kelsey-Woodlawn Community Association

Methadone clinicMayfair Drugs has partnered with the Saskatoon

Health Region to provide satellite clinic space within the store for methadone assisted recovery services. The clinic will offer on-site counselling and prescribing services to methadone clients living in the Mayfair area. Research in the addictions field has shown methadone combined with counselling leads to better treatment outcomes than methadone alone. Mayfair Drugs says the goal in providing services to clients in their neighbourhood is to increase access to individual support.

The clinic is expected to open at the beginning of May. Over the last year or so, the management of Mayfair Drugs decided to downsize its front store area and expand its pharmacy and health-care services. The clinic space idea evolved from this decision to expand health-care offerings. In talking with addictions outreach workers providing services to Mayfair Drugs clients, staff at the store learned that services available to them are not always fully accessed because of the transportation difficulties many experience.

The clinic will be managed and staffed by the health region independent of the pharmacy. For more information contact Mayfair Drugs, the door is always open and questions are welcome.
