MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Most everything in 2020 looked different, and MBA career recruit-ing was no exception.
Evidence of the world’s most effective MBA network and the con-tinued demand for wise, decisive and resilient leaders, I’m proud to share that our resilient classes of 2020 and 2021 experienced great success with full-time offers and internships.
First-year compensation for Tuck 2020 MBA graduates, for exam-ple, climbed to a new high. Median total compensation rose to $180,000, increasing from $170,000 just a year prior. The median first-year base salary is $150,000 and the median signing bonus is $30,000. The mean first-year base salary and signing bonus for Tuck’s newest graduates totals to $178,038. Consistent with years prior, 88 percent of graduates received a signing bonus. Overall, 94 percent of Tuck’s most recent graduates received a job offer within three months after graduation, and 92 percent accepted positions within the same time-frame.
The rise in compensation was driven in part by the percentage of students going into consulting and finance. A record among recent classes, 42 percent of this year’s graduating class secured jobs in the consulting industry. Financial services and technology remained popular industries with 21 percent of the class going into finance and 15 percent going into technology. In the health care space we saw 8 percent of the class accept jobs in the health care, pharma, and biotech industries.
And our 2020 graduates were not the only ones who experienced career success in 2020. Every student in the class of 2021 had at least one internship or fellowship during the pandemic sum-mer—some even had two. For this accomplishment, I would be remiss not to thank our famously loyal alumni network who offered their recruiting support, made countless phone calls, and opened up their rolodexes to ensure internship placement for all our first-year students. This personalized approach to career recruiting is truly distinct to the Tuck MBA.
As I review our latest employment results, I can’t help but feel a sense of pride for Tuck, but par-ticularly for our students who showed remarkable resiliency and strength in the midst of a global crisis—and their efforts have paid off. When I speak to our recruiting partners and companies, there is a common thread in every conversation: today’s top organizations and firms are looking for collaborative, team-oriented, decisive leaders. They are looking for the kind of leaders that Tuck best develops.
Indeed, our 2020 employment report affirms that demand remains high for Tuck MBAs. We in Career Services are poised as ever to continue our work in helping students meet their greatest career aspirations.
Best,
Stephen Pidgeon T'07Executive Director, Career ServicesTuck School of Business at Dartmouth
