    RecycleJean,

Having a home to call their own is just

one of the many things the Jackson

family dreamed of. Their dream has now

become a reality thanks to Habitat for

    Humanity, Cotton Inc., and American

    Eagle Outfitters.

    Debbie Jackson lives in the

    recently devastated town of Hayes,

Kansas, which was hard hit by an EF-5

tornado, with her only daughter Sydney.

The family has been living in a FEMA

trailer for over a year and was informedthat they would be receiving a new home

    built by Habitat for Humanity.

    Ive lost everything after the

storm: my job, my car, and my home. My

daughter has lost almost all shes known

as well. We are so grateful for the help

that has been given by Habitat for

    Humanity, stated Jackson.

The home that was built for thefamily had a different kind of insulation

put into it than you would normally see in

most homes. Thanks to a joint effort put

forth by two major companies: Cotton Inc.

and American Eagle Outfitters. The home

    was insulated entirely with recycled

    denim jeans.

    Most people dont think that

denim could be used for insulation. I

admit that even I was questioning

whether itd actually work, stated Robert

    Hansen, American Eagle Outfitters CEO.

American Eagle Outfitters for the past 2

years has accepted donations for denimfor over 2 weeks every October in

connection with Cotton Inc. All of the

donated denim goes directly to Bonded

Logic, which transforms the denim into

    Ultra Touch insulation.

Ive never seen so much blue in

a house that wasnt paint in my entire life.

The insulation wasnt like what you would

normally think of as insulation. Im excited

to experience this awesome design in our

new home. Im also so thankful for all of

    the donations sponsored by American

Eagle and Cotton Inc. Im definitely

looking toward to giving to the next denim

drive given by American Eagle, stated

    Jackson.

    I honestly never realized that

fashion could trend even into the home

building industry. With denim being used

in homes as a form of insulation and our

    company specializing in the denim

fashion industry we look forward to the

many more years of denim drives in

efforts of bettering people who need the

    help, stated Robert Hansen.

The next drive for denim will be

running from October 9 October 20 at

    American Eagle Outfitters. For every

donation customers will receive a 20% off

discount good for that days purchase

and can be combined on top of

    any promotions.

Ive never seen somuch blue in

    a house...

    So thankful

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

    Budget Cuts Threaten Local Economy

Hundreds of Cape Girardeau area businesses are threatened as the Missouri House of Representatives debates a

bill to derail the steady growth at Southeast Missouri State University. The proposed legislation calls for a reduction in

merit-based scholarships which will likely lead to a decrease in student enrollment. Area businesses can expect to be hit

hard as Southeast students are annually relied on to be a chief source of revenue.

Southeast Missouri State University offers more than $17 million in scholarship awards annually, making a

Southeast education possible for any student who seeks it, said University President, Dr. Kenneth W. Dobbins. Any cuts

to our universitys scholarship program will stunt the annual growth in student enrollment.

Potential cuts are a worry for local business owner John Johnson. I see an increase in sales at the beginning of

every semester, said Johnson. A decrease in enrollment at Southeast is certainly going to be bad for business.

Cape Girardeau residents have the opportunity to contact their local state representatives to voice their opinions or

vote for a candidate this November with Southeast Missouri in mind.

    About Southeast Missouri State University:

Southeast Missouri State University is ranked as one of the nations most affordable four-year universities in the

Midwest. With over 200 areas of study Southeast is committed to helping students and their families make college

affordable. For more information, visit www.semo.edu.
