What is your reaction?

Thought, emotion and response all take place rapidly in your own mind. Against a fading beat, isolated events attempt to control a rhythm that seamlessly

disappears and reappears as set text questions your own thoughts.

Divided Against captures the physical response to an uncontrollable reaction.

Where is your truth? Where are your wisdom and understanding?

by Halfstack Magazine. Other commissions include: Giordano II, Missouri Contemporary Ballet, Nomi Dance Company, Visceral Dance Chicago, Artifact Dance Project, and Glendale Community College (Artist in Residence 2012). In addition to performance and choreography, Carter is a passionate dance educator and teaches in schools across the United States each year, as well as in several Chicago dance institutions. He is a member of the Dance for Life Chicago Ambassador Committee, and also serves as the director to GDC’s second company, Giordano II, an organization of which he was a member in 2009. He is in his seventh season as a main company member with GDC.

Natasha Overturff Denny began her dance training in Des Moines, IA, at her mother’s studio, Moore Dance. At a young age she began traveling to Evanston, IL, to further her studies, where she fell in love with the Giordano Technique and continued to study it consistently throughout her training. After graduating high school, she attended the University of Arizona to continue her dance education under a faculty made up of several past Giordano Company members. While there, Overturff Denny performed various repertoire works from choreographers such as Susan Quinn, Sam Watson, Michael Williams, and was the featured female role in Chicago Medley staged by Ann Reinking and Gary Chryst. She graduated cum laude from with a BFA degree in 2012. Upon graduating, she began her career with Giordano Dance Chicago as a Giordano II and held that position for two seasons. Overturff Denny was then promoted to senior performing associate where she performed and toured with the main company regionally, nationally and internationally for one season, and was then promoted to the main company. She is currently working as a guest choreographer and teacher at studios, high schools and universities across the country. Overturff Denny has been on faculty at the Great Lakes Dance Festival and has also set works

for the company Ballet Nebraska. She is thrilled to be in her second season as a main company member and in her fifth season with the Giordano Dance Chicago organization and family.

Ashley Downs is a proud native of Lake Elmo, MN, where she graduated with honors from St. Paul Conservatory for Performing Artists. She graduated magna cum laude from Point Park University with a Bachelor of Arts degree, with a concentration in Jazz. While attending Point Park, Downs had the privilege of training and performing a variety of works by Martha Graham, Kiesha Lalama, Ron Tassone, Garfield Lemonius and Sidra Bell. In addition to performing, she has also illustrated an immense passion for teaching. Downs has had the privilege of being a part of GDC’s Jazz Dance/Science and Health outreach program this past season, teaching and bringing the joy of dance and health to 4th and 5th graders. She has and continues to teach and choreograph for various studios in the Chicago area. This is her third season as a main company member following one season as a GII and one season as a performing associate. Downs is so grateful for the constant love and support from her family and couldn’t be more thrilled and honored to be a part of the wonderful family that is Giordano Dance Chicago!

Jacob Frazier started his dance training in Ballet, Modern and Jazz in Cincinnati. He graduated from Butler Tech School of the Arts in 2012 and attended Point Park University, where he received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Dance with a concentration in Modern Dance. Immediately following graduation, Berube was asked to be a part of Giordano II. After two rewarding seasons as a GII, she is enjoying her fourth season as a company member. In addition to performing, she exhibits a growing passion for the art of choreography. For the past five years Berube has had the privilege of working with three underserved CPS Schools teaching the Jazz Dance/Science & Health outreach program to 4th and 5th graders. She is currently on faculty at All About Dance as the company modern teacher. Berube is incredibly thankful to have her family and friends supporting her passion for dance each and every day.

Devin Buchanan began studying dance at Pinnell Dance Centre in Gahanna, OH, where he trained in ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical and hip hop. After high school, Buchanan was accepted into the certificate program at The Ailey School. The Ailey School provided him with performance opportunities and increased knowledge in various dance techniques such as Horton. He was also given the chance to perform on stage with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre in Memoria. Buchanan graduated from the Alvin Ailey certificate program in May 2010 and was accepted into The Fraulein Maria Project, which gave him the chance to continue his work in modern dance. He joined Giordano Dance Chicago as a Giordano II and had the opportunity to perform with the main company regionally and internationally. He was promoted to the main

Company after one season as a GII. During his time with Giordano he has toured nationally and internationally, performing works by Liz Imperio, Roni Koresh, Ron De Jesus, Randy Duncan and Gus Giordano, to name a few. Since joining GDC in 2010, he has had the opportunity to tour nationally and abroad performing works by Brock Clawson, Autumn Eckman, Nan Giordano, Liz Imperio, Roni Koresh, Ray Leeper, Jon Lehrer, Ray Mercer, Mia Michaels and more. His continued interest in choreography led him to become a finalist in the Dance Under the Stars Choreography Festival in Palm Desert, CA, in 2008. The following year he was selected as the winner of Wonderbound’s (formerly Ballet Nouveau Colorado) national choreography competition, dancemakers2.0, and in the spring of 2013, he was one of six winners commissioned to create a new work for DanceWorks Chicago’s DanceMoves choreography competition. Later in 2013, he was awarded the Producers’ Panel Prize by The Ruth Page Foundation for his work, Ripen, as part of Dance Chance: Redux 5.0. Carter’s 2015 work for Giordano Dance Chicago, the only way around is through, was referred to as “fresh and cohesive… honest and genuine”
