Supply fan All units use a single, double width, double inlet, forward curved blower driven by a permanently lubricated, inherently protected, PSC motor. All fan motors have four speeds to provide the optimum in obtaining the desired fan performance to meet different external static pressure conditions A 1 horsepower belt drive motor is available on three-phase 81/2, 4 and 5 ton bottom duct (plenum) units This enables the unit to satisfy higher static pressure requirements. The belt drive fan assembly includes an adjustable sheave to match desired airflow to the duct pressure loss

Electric heat Cooling only units offer field installed electric heating coils Each heater assembly is designed for slide-in installation on the discharge of the supply fan. The electric heater assemblies feature low watt density, open wire heating elements supported by ceramic bushings Heaters meet all requirements of ULand National Electrical Code with circuits wired for 48 amps maximum and fused to 60 amps. Safety controls include automatic reset high limit thermostats on each element to deactivate heaters in the event of high temperature

Electric heaters are available in a wide selection of capacities for each unit size to enable the designer to closely match job heating requirements and avoid oversizing of I<W input Single point wiring connection is standard on threephase 3'12 through 5 ton units which eliminates the requirement for a separate power feeder, overcurrent protection and disconnecting means for the cooling circuit and the electric heat circuit All units designed for three phase power utilize three-phase electric heaters to evenly distribute the I<W load over all phases which simplifies and reduces wiring All heating circuits are fused in all legs and sub-circuit fusing for the cooling circuit is provided with the unit

Plenum units mount quickly and simply on a factory fabricated frame that has been approved by the National Roofing Contractors Association. The mounting system features an innovative design concept that permits just one size of unit support frame to completely cover the 2 through 5 ton size range This can completely eliminate the requirement to determine unit size prior to establishing tenant requirements and steel erection 1-------- ····. --...:--- 01 ~ .. /

The unique mounting system reduces noise and vibration transmission to the conditioned space The units are positively isolated from the support frame by means of a factory assembled rigid isolator pad that significantly reduces the amount of structurally transmitted vibration noise from the unit to the roof structure An added protection against water leakage is provided by the unit base pan which extends over the top of the support frame acting as a barrier to water entry When combined with the field installed NRCA recommended counter flashing, the resulting installation provides a high degree of weather protection

0 to 100% Economizer For economy of operation on plenum units, the 0 to 100% economizer package provides automatic control of fresh air and return air dampers to mix cool outside air with return air to satisfy space cooling requirements without the use of mechanical cooling

The economizer assembly utilizes an outdoor air sensing enthalpy controller to sense temperature and humidity to activate the free cooling cycle whenever the outdoor air is below the setpoint of the controller The economizer assembly utilizes a spring return actuator to close the damper on loss of power to the unit Other features include a minimum position potentiometer and a mixed air temperature setpoint adjustment knob Pressure relief is also incorporated in the economizer assembly to relieve excess building pressure caused by the introduction of larger amounts of outdoor air

The economizer assembly is designed for quick and simple field insertion in the unit plenum A factory installed wiring harness in the plenum allows for simple wiring connections to the economizer When used with 460 volt units, a separate transformer kit is available Installation takes only a few minutes and no sheetmetal work is necessary nor are special tools

0 to 25% Motorized outdoor intake For motorized outdoor air damper control, this assembly consists of a motorized damper mounted on a solid louvered panel The two-position motor drives the damper open whenever the supply fan motor is activated The damper closes during no fan operation on night setback or weekend cycles

The assembly is designed to fit onto the factory plenum by replacing one door from the plenum and includes plug-in wire connections to a wire harness located in the plenum Installation takes only a few minutes and no sheetmetal work is necessary nor are special tools

Concentric duct/diffuser system For quick and easy installation, this package provides prefabricated ductwork and a concentric ceiling diffuser. The concentric supply/return diffuser is designed for use in con.: junction with packaged rooftop units where it is desired to provide the convenience and low cost Of a single cooling outlet for both supply and return air The 18-inch round flexible -iuct kit simply attaches to the extruded hole on the bottom of the unit with a connecting collar The collar slides in-

to the extruded holes and provides a collar for connection of the flexible ducts

The diffuser is constructed of aluminum for strength and durability and has an attractive finish that will blend with any ceiling style or decor All diffusers have manual dampers for proper air balancing from all four supply grilles. The return grille is made from high impact plastic and is removable for periodic cleaning

Thermostats A variety of thermostats are offered to meet your control needs Three 24 volt thermostats are available for one-stage heating and cooling with manual changeover control, multistage heating and cooling with combination manual and automatic changeover control, and multi-stage heating and cooling without changeover control for use with a separate remote status panel.

Status panel For the convenience of remote status readout, this panel provides combination manual and automatic changeover control, "on" or "auto" fan operation, and four lights The lights enable status readout of "fan on", "cool on", "heat on", and "clogged filter " A clogged filter switch is required for operation of the clogged filter light

Power Saver thermostat For use with 6--element, 3-phase electric heaters, this option can capture savings by controlling a portion of the electric heater by a thermostat sensing outside air temperature. When the outside air temperature is above the setting of the thermostat a portion of the electric heater is prevented from operating regardless of space conditions Only when the outside temperature falls below the setpoint, signifying a definite heating load increase, will the electric heater be available for operation and under control of the space thermostat

Anti-cycle relay Available on all units, this relay provides time delayed compressor operation to prevent short cycling

Start assist Available on 2 through SV2 ton single phase units, this kit consists of a PTC start capacitor to provide extra compressor starting power

COOLING GAS HEATING ROOFTOP UNITS

Design features General The cooling with gas heating rooftop units are available with horizontal duct connections for slab mounting applications or with an attached dedicated plenum and bottom (vertical) duct connections for roof mounted applications with the supply and return ducts penetrating the roof within the confines of the roof curb The plenum is an integral part of the unit cabinet which eliminates field labor assembly of field mounted plenums The plenum houses the 1" thick throwaway filter assembly and allows for the addition of 0 to 25o/o motorized fresh air intake damper or 0 to 100% economizer damper section over the standard 0 to 25% manual fresh air intake damper The standard 0 to 25% manual damper incorporates a louvered intake grille and adjustable damper

To further increase field labor savings, the economizer and 0 to 25% motorized damper options are available factory installed The units are totally assembled and wired and ready for power control wiring and supply gas piping

To assure yourself of the correct cooling capacity, each unit is ARI certified For assured safety, each unit is AGA certified.

For optimum performance and efficiency, the horizontally dueled units are available in two cabinet sizes: the 2, 2112 and 3 ton units are in the small cabinet and the 3'12, 4 and 5 ton units are in the large cabinet The bottom dueled (plenum) units have a single compact cabinet size for all units which allows final unit sizing after the roof curbs have been installed since one curb fits all the units

Construction Each unit base, frame and cabinet is constructed from heavygauge galvanized steel to provide inherent corrosion protection and structural strength. All exterior cabinet parts are finished by a five-step metal preparation and painting process, including phospate and chromic treatments for additional corrosion protection and excellent bonding The electrostatically applied acrylic enamel is baked on, yielding a smooth perfect finish suitable for all geographic locations

The cabinet is fully insulated with 1" thick neoprene or foilfaced coated fiberglass insulation fastened to the panels Panels are provided for access to the compressor, supply fan, gas heating and electric control box sections

"U"-shaped channels are provided on the horizontally dueled units and a heavy-gauge base frame on the bottom dueled (plenum) units have multiple slots to accept forklift legs for quick and easy transporting and rigging of the unit The heavy base has a formed recess to seat on the roof curb gasketing to provide a weathertight seal and to overhand the roof curb for water run-off Heavy-duty rigging lugs are designed to accept cable or chain hooks for easy jobsite handling.

Overall, the cabinetry lines are smooth without unsightly protrusions and the unit looks "one piece" since all the sections, even the plenum, are tied together as an integral part, not separate add-on sections

The top panel over the compressor section has a stamped discharge louver for the condenser fan, which eliminates a protruding fan guard for that extra-smooth look

Field connections and electrical All the items to make installation easier are found on these units Holes are provided for gas piping and field wiring entrance eliminating extra field labor. The bottom dueled (plenum) units allow for field wiring to enter through the side of the outer cabinet or through knockouts located on the bot-

tom panel Also, two holes are located in the outer cabinet to bring main power wiring up through the bottom of the unit and out to a disconnect switch and back into the main control panel The same can be done with the low voltage control wiring

Electrical controls are conveniently located in a single control box isolated from the rest of the unit sections and accessible through a single panel The controls are neatly spaced and include a 24 volt control transformer, compressor contactor, fan relay, heat relay and a low voltage terminal strip located in a separate compartment. The bottom dueled (plenum) units have a time delay relay to prevent compressor short cycling

Refrigeration system The direct expansion refrigeration system is completely sealed, factory charged and tested The system consists of a compressor, evaporator coil, condenser coil, capillary tubes and interconnecting tubing

All units use a single hermetic compressor with inherent thermal overload protection All compressors are standard with a crankcase hater

The evaporator and condenser coils are fabricated of aluminum fins bonded to seamless copper tubes.

The condenser fan is propeller type design for quiet operation with vertical air discharge. Each fan is driven by a direct drive, PSC type motor with internal overload protection

Each refrigerant circuit has low ambient controls, SO'F cutoff on horizontally dueled units and O'F low ambient control on all bottom ducted (plenum) units. The bottom dueled (plenum) units have a high pressure refrigerant safety switch for added protect'1on A PTC start capacitor is provided on 3V,, 4 and 5 ton, single-phase, horizontally ducted units and on 3, 4 and 5 ton, bottom dueled (plenum) units for extra compressor starting power

Supply fan All units use a single, double width, double inlet, forward curved blower driven by a permanently lubricated, inherently protected PSC motor All fan motors have four speeds (three speeds on 2-ton units) to provide the optimum in obtaining the desired fan performance to meet different external static pressure conditions. A 1 horsepower belt drive motor option is available on three-phase, 3, 4 and 5 ton bottom ducted (plenum) units This enables the unit to satisfy higher static pressure requirements. The belt drive option includes an adjustable motor sheave to meet the desired fan performance

Gas heating section The gas heating capabilties and features are numerous. Each unit size has a minimum of two gas heating capacities and some units have a choice of four heating capacities to more accurately satisfy your heating requirements without oversiz· ing. A choice of nature gas, propane and low NOx burners (California) models are available for each of the five gas heating input capacities, 50, 75, 100, 125 and 150 mbh To minimize your heating costs, high efficiencies were achieved with AFUE ratings for the natural gas units ranging from 76% to 82%

The heart of the gas heating section is the aluminized steel, multi-section heat exchanger. Years of research went into the development of a process to join the heat exchanger sections without welding. The result is a durable, non-leaking heat exchanger which stays that way even through repeated years of stress from cycling

The other major feature is the use of a power forced draft venter motor. The forced draft concept pushes combustion air into the burner section thus pressurizing the burner sec· tion. The venter motor is kept out of the combustion airstream,

keeping the motor cooler The result is longer life for the venter fan motor

The gas heating system also features an automatic relight ignition system, fan and limit control, gas valve for single-

stage control, pressure regulator and manual shutoff gas valve. Controls include fan control thermostat, fan timer, limit switch, centrifugal venter motor switch, sensor igniter and auxiliary limit

!Field installed accessories and options Roof curb Plenum units mount quickly and simply on a factory fabricated frame that has been approved by the National Roofing Contractors Association The mounting system features an innovative design concept that permits just one size of unit support frame to completely cover the 2 through 5 ton size range This can completely eliminate the requirement to determine unit size prior to establishing tenant requirements and steel erection

The unique mounting system reduces noise and vibration transmission to the conditioned space The units are positively isolated from the support frame by means of a factory assembled rigid isolator pad that significantly reduces the amount of structurally transmitted vibration noise from the unit to the roof structure An added protection against water leakage is provided by the unit base which extends over the top of the support frame acting as a barrier to water entry When combined with the field installed NRCA recom-mended counter flashing, the resulting installation provides a high degree of weather protection.

0 to 100% Economizer For economy of operation on plenum units, the 0 to 100% economizer package provides automatic control of fresh air and return air dampers to mix cool outside air with return air to satisfy space cooling requirements without the use of mechanical cooling.

The economizer assembly utilizes an outdoor air sensing enthalpy controller to sense temperature and humidity to activate the free cooling cycle whenever the outdoor air is below the setpoint of the controller. The economizer assembly utilizes a spring return actuator to close the damper on loss of power to the unit Other features include a minimum position potentiometer and a mixed air temperature setpoint adjustment knob Pressure relief is also incorporated in the economizer assembly to relieve excess building pressure caused by the introduction of larger amounts of outdoor air

The economizer assembly is designed for quick and simple field insertion in the unit plenum. A factory installed wiring harness in the plenum allows for simple wiring connectoins to the economizer. To make your job easier and to save field labor costs, the economizer assembly is available as a factory installed assembly. Installation takes only a few minutes and no sheetmetal work is necessary nor are special tools

0 to 25% Motorized outdoor intake For motorized outdoor air damper control, this assembly consists of a motorized damper mounted on a solid louvered panel. The two-position motor drives the damper open whenever the supply fan motor is activated The damper closes during no fan operation on night setback or weekend cycles

The assembly is designed to fit onto the factory plenum by replacing one door from the plenum and the assembly includes plug-in wire connections to a wire harness located in the plenum Installation takes only a few minutes and no sheetmetal work is necessary nor are special tools To make the job easier and to save field labor costs, the assembly is available as a factory installed option

2 Select a packaged rooftop unit based on required cooling capacity: a Prom the cooling capacity tables, the 5-ton nominal unit

is the closest selection to the required capacity b Total cooling capacity is determined by evaporator

entering air wet bulb temperature. Sensible capacity is based on entering air dry bulb temperature

At 1800 elm, Total capacity (670F wb) Sensible (80°F db)

(75°F db)

63 3 mbh 45 9 mbh 36.9 mbh

c Catalog capacity must be corrected for uncataloged entering air dry bulb temperature. By interpolation, actual capacity at 1800 elm and 78 oF db:

Total Sensible

63 3 mbh 42 3 mbh

A correction factor for outdoor air temperature is required since standard capacity is based on 95'F. From the capacity correction tables: Total 1 05 x 63 3 ~ 66.7 mbh Sensible 1. 03 x 42.3 ~ 43.5 mbh

3 Check heating capacity of unit selected From the heating capacity table for natural gas, a 150 mbh input furnace will supply 111 mbh output

4 Determine evaporator blower speed taps To enter evaporator blower tables, it is necessary to correct the design external static in accordance with the component pressure drop table The 5-ton unit has the following pressure drop:

NOTES: Capacities are approved for altitudes to 2000 feet. At higher elevations heating capacities must be reduced by 4% per 1000 feet above sea level.

2 Air temperature rise is for total output capacity. Temperature rises at other conditions may be calculated by using the formula:

Output (Btu/hr.) Itmpt.r:a.turt. Ri~t "" 1 09 x cfm

3 For altitudes over 2 000 feet air temperature rise must be calculated us·· ing the formula:

. . Output (Btu/hr.) Tt.mptr.aturt. R1St = -;-c-,---,--.;'-"='-"-";"';''----ccc-c-

14 4 x cfm )( 5pecified wt of air
