Established in 2005, the ALERT central distribution center is sponsored by the Lions of District 21-B, Arizona. Lions collect used eyeglasses and deliver them to the center. After the used eyeglasses are cleaned and sorted, the lens prescription is deter-mined. Finally, the eyeglasses are ready for distribution for missions around the world. ALERT supports additional eyeglass collection hubs around the district, where glasses are also sorted, cleaned, and prescriptions determined. The involvement of District 21-B Lions is valued, making this a true district project and also a great re-cruiting tool demonstrating the basics of Lionism.

Guidelines for Our Members Courtesy, Protocol & Practices

Club Protocol - At all meetings, fellow members should be referred to as “Lions” If they hold a title in your club, district, multiple district or LCI, their title should be used. i.e. “Governor Carol” or “Lion Ron”

If a Lion holds or has held two high offices, he or she should be referred to in their highest office held. In order to be elected Council Chairman, he or she would have to have had been a Past District Governor. They should be referred to as PCC, Not PDG

Lions are all volunteers and receive no pay or reimbursement for all ser-vices we provide, so we appreciate Lions who are polite and courteous to follow a few customs which we call “Lions Protocol.” This outline explains a few of these protocol courtesies.

When an honored guest is visiting your club, meet them outside your meeting place: escort him/her as well as their party to a seat in the front of the room. Keep your meeting short, giving the honored guest plenty of time to share with you what’s going on in the world of Lionism and our District. Both the Governor and Zone Chairpersons are required to write a report on each of their visits regarding your club’s activities and leadership. When an honored guest is introduced (by the Club President or Zone Chairperson) everyone should STAND and applaud. You are showing your respect for the office as well as the person. Have a written agenda and stick to it. Start the meeting on time and adjourn to give the honored guest sufficient time to return home. Keep your meetings interesting, informative, and short. Treat ALL guests as if they are a family member and the way you would want to be treated. When introducing a Lion, always say “Lion” before their name. If they have a Lion title such as Governor or Secretary, you don’t have to use “Lion” in front of their name with their title. This goes for club officers too. Always carry a “New Member” application (or new member info packet) with you. Your club can achieve more with more members. Why keep all the FUN to yourself.

A Short Course in Human Relations The 6 most important words: “I Admit I Made A Mistake”

The 5 most important words: “You Do A Good Job.” The 4 most important words: “What Is Your Opinion?”

The 3 most important words: “If You Please.” The 2 most important words: “Thank You!”

The 1 most important word: “We” The least important word: “I”

31

LIONS CODE OF ETHICSTo show my faith in the worthiness of my vocation by industrious applica-

tion to the end that I may merit a reputation for quality of service.

To seek success and to demand all fair remuneration or profit as my just due, but to accept no profit or success at the price of my own self re-spect lost because of unfair advantage taken or because of question-able acts on my own part.

To remember that in building up my business it is not necessary to tear down another’s; to be loyal to my clients or customers and true to myself.

Whenever a doubt arises as to the right or ethics of my position or action towards my fellow men, to resolve such doubt against myself.

To hold friendship as an end and not a means. To hold that true friendship exists not on account of the service performed by one to another, but that true friendship demands nothing but accepts service in the spirit in which it is given.

Always to bear in mind my obligations as a citizen to my nation, my state and my community, and to give to them my unswerving loyalty in word, act and deed. To give them freely of my time, labor and means.

To aid my fellow men by giving my sympathy to those in distress, my aid to the weak, my substance to the needy.

To be careful with my criticism and liberal with my praise; to build up and not destroy.

LIONS PRAYERSInvocation Lord, as we Lions gather here, we pause to offer up this prayer. Bless now this food that we partake and every effort that we make to build the towns in which we live and put it in our hearts to give to worthy causes. Bless the blind and all we do to serve mankind. Be with us till we meet again and bless our hands and homes. Amen.

Prayer with MealsLord, hear these Lions when they pray. We thank you for bringing us safely through another day. As we gather to give our reports and to dine, may we all remember the pledge we took when becoming a Lion: to attend all meetings and work together, helping others to some degree to live better. As we also work to help those who live in strife, we thank you Dear God for granting us such a wonderful life. Lord, hear this, our prayer, and may we continue to live and work in your care. Amen.

BenedictionAnd now may the Lord

Lions SongI’ve got that Lions spirit up in my head,

Up in my head, up in my head.I’ve got that Lions spirit up in my head,

Up in my head today.

I’ve got that Lions spirit here in my heart, Here In my heart, here in my heart

I’ve got that Lions spirit here in my heart, Here In my heart today.

I’ve got that Lions spirit down in my feet, Down in my feet, down in my feet

I’ve got that Lions spirit down in my feet Down in my feet today.

I’ve got that Lions spirit all over me All over me, all over me.

I’ve got that Lions spirit all over me All over me today

I’ve got that Lions spirit up in my head, here in my heart, down in my feet,

I’ve got that Lions spirit all over me, All over me to stay!
