4) Reports from Groups

a) Peak Audax Events Secretary: Mike reported that we had suffered a serious casualty on one of our recent rides, the 600km Cambrian Randonnée, when one of the Peak Audax Organisers was deliberately pushed off his bike by someone leaning out of a passing car. Derek ended up in Hereford hospital with a broken hip, femur and collar bone and is likely to be off work until after Christmas. The Police treated this as a serious assault and took detailed statements but it would seem unlikely that anyone will be apprehended.

Derek is the Organiser of the forthcoming Dark Peak Grimpeur but Mike will step in to run this event.

b) Bury: the successful Charlie Westlake rides will again be run in 2011, but the 50km event will be dedicated as a memorial to Walter Pilkington, while the 80km will retain Charlie’s name.

c) Oldham & Tameside: The same few keep flying the flag.

d) West Manchester: Keeping active with a Free Wheel competition, a Hare and Hounds event and a Speed judging competition.

5) Northern Wheel: We discussed Graham’s decision to step down as editor after 26 years. A vote of thanks was raised in appreciation of his contribution to cycling journalism in the Manchester area. Unfortunately Graham has created a bit of a monster with no obvious candidates to take over.

All Advertisers have received all their pre-paid coverage so there is nothing outstanding on the business front. There are some Postal Subscribers who will not have received all their pre-paid issues, and we resolved to retain their funds in order to send them future editions should anyone step up as Editor. Of course, any requests for a refund will be honoured.

We need to use Cycle magazine and the website to communicate with our riders.

6) Future Events

Beard Cup, 5th September 2010

Peak Audax events from Cheadle, as detailed in Cycle and at www.ManchesterCTC.co.uk
