DEPARTMENT OF MECHANICALENGINEERING
The department offers the undergraduate programmeB.Tech (Mechanical Engineering) {4-years, Full Time} underKerala Technological University from 2015 batch onwardsand was under Calicut University (upto 2014 batch).
The total intake for the programme is 63 students (6students will be admitted under lateral entry during thirdsemester).
The vision and mission statements of the department areVISION: To be recognized for outstanding education andresearch in engineering and being a leader in thisprofession.
MISSION: Imparting quality education that will make the students innovative, entrepreneurial,globally competitiveand successful in the fields of engineering and research. Toprovide state of the art research facilities for students andfaculty through consultancies and linkages with nearby R&Dinstitutions and industries. Commitment to continuousimprovement in overall quality of teaching, research andservice.
The department is equipped with following laboratories
1. Machine shop I and Machine shop II2. Basic Mechanical Engineering Workshop
3. Thermal Engineering Lab I and II4. CADD Lab
Latest equipment and machineries, procured throughGovernment, TEQIP-II and other funds such as NMEICT areused in the labs.One of the major attraction is the 3-D Printer used in CADDLab. The latest version of the software CATIA is used in theLab.
Latest version of NASTRAN software is available for use ofstudents in the Central Computing Facility.The department library has got latest version books inMechanical Engineering.
The department undertakes student projects from CERDunder the guidance of highly qualified professors. One suchproject is the “Fabrication and Testing of Porous Structures”done by Third year students Abhijith K and Jishnu C underthe guidance of Dr.A.Selvakumar.
The department arranges expert lectures with resourcepersons from reputed institutes like, IIT, NIT etc., and fromindustries like HAL, Dell, Six D solutions etc., to bring outthe latest technologies to students. One such program wasSix Dimensional Scanner used for 3D printing technologies.
The department students were taken to industrial visits ofreputed industries like, FCRI Palakkad, HAL Bangalore,KSIC Mysore etc.
The department has conducted many internal facultydevelopment programmes and permit staff to attendexternal faculty development programme to learn latest
technologies and to impart knowledge to students. Some ofthe programmes are
