Comments: Very early design. Found in the 1990s at its original location, a bar at Ellston and Chestnut in Chicago. Solenoid for wall box twice the size of later ones.

Comments: Emerson motor, S/N 337251. The piano was advertised on Craig's list as an antique player piano. It was picked up on the South West side of Chicago and did have one original A roll. It appears to have been refinished some time ago with some non-professional restorations to the player, a few hoses replaced. No date as to when this was done. All components seem to be intact-ed and original. Stack #408 written in pencil under the removable valves. Much dirt on the inside with a strong odor of tobacco, so guessing that it came out of a bar or tavern.

Comments: Emerson Motor #73610DL. Restored about 18 years ago. Case refinished in original silver gray quartered oak finish color. Originally sold to a tavern in Reddick Illinois, (Gianottie), then to an ice cream parlor (McGinnes), then moved during the war years (1940) to an upstairs dance hall above the ice cream parlor. Then it was purchased by a private individual in about 1946, was in a house basement, suffered 2 floods (about 13 inches of water), was put in storage in a garage in Kankakee Illinois, was there for many years, and that is where the current owner purchased it. He knew of this piano and he waited 35 years for the owner to to make up his mind to sell it.

Comments: The piano has J.P. Seeburg cast into the frame instead of Western Electric. The original top and lower (single panel type) fronts are missing, and have been replaced with home made frames containing large sheets of red and green Plexiglas. The player mechanism appears to have had some work done at some time in the distant past, but it still has most of the original tracker bar tubing which is solidified. A suction box has been added, but the piano does not play at all presently. The piano action with its original hammers, the case, and piano strung back all appear to be in very good condition. Motor is not original; has an Ampico grand motor installed. Piano was purchased by its former owner in a restaurant auction in or around Washington, DC around 2010. It was found advertised for sale in November 2015 at their home in Silver Spring, MD, just outside of Washington, DC.

Comments: No name cast in piano plate. Purchased in 1967 by Don MacDonald from its original location, the Shamrock Taven in Namioka, Illinois. The day after MacDonald acquired it and removed it from the tavern, a kitchen grease fire destroyed the building. Don repaired it and sold it to the Trent Motel and Restaurant in Ballwin, Missouri in 1969. In 2013, he was able to acquire it again and plans to give it a complete restoration.

Comments: Original Emerson motor s/n #570032, type 7361MN. This Seeburg coin piano evidently spent its entire commercial life in a Fall River, Wisconsin, local tavern. The instrument is in mint unrestored condition, but will require a complete case refinishing and interior mechanical restoration. It has never been wet or abused and is complete and intact. There has been some "back alley" mechanical work on it, but nothing to detract from the originality of the instrument.

David Ramey Jr. installed a simple device on the xylophone that mechanically keeps the reiterating pallet valves from working when you want it to play single stroke. When it moves back out of the way, the xylophone reiterates as usual.

Coin box is a sheet metal box attached to side of case with a removable locking drawer. Instrument is fully functional including the song indicator. Purchased from Steve Gronowski, who started the Chicago Coin-Op Show.

Roll Mechanism: Original MO roll frame missing, replaced with Western Electric 65-note roll frame.

Comments: Purchased in 2003 from an owner in Pittsburg, PA area. Someone had previously begun work on it, removing (and disposing of) the roll frame, its mounting board, and all of its primary and lock-and-cancel valves. The blower was missing; now replaced with an external unit that supplies both vacuum and pipe pressure from a single 1 HP “regenerative” blower, using a "spill" process for regulation. Rather than restore it, the current owner decided to convert it to play style A music rolls, as well as play and record MIDI data streams. The tracker bar connects to a pneumatic-to-electric chest that provides signals enabling the electronics to drive the magnets for piano and organ notes, as well as for control functions. The original set of pallet valves under the keys were left intact, to allow manual playing of the organ. Both the pallet valves and the original tracker bar cutout unit were re-conditioned and their rubber tubing teed into the pneumatic-to-electric relay chest input ports, which obviated the need to cover up the holes in the tracker bar during manual playing. The MIDI interface uses hardware and software designed and freely shared by Thorsten Klose in Germany.

Instrumentation: Piano, and 61 flute pipes (24 open, 37 stopped), plus 37 metal Quintadena pipes--96 total pipes under keybed.
