Description
Students acquire the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to transcribe medical reports, communicate effectively with members of the medical profession, and demonstrate computer skills and keyboarding proficiency. This program is designed to prepare graduates for employment as medical transcriptionists in a variety of health care environments or home-based businesses.
Admission Requirements
Grade 12 graduation or equivalent English proficiency requirement: - English 12 with a B or higher, or - Academic IELTS 6.5 (Listening 6.0, Speaking 7.0, Reading 6.0, Writing 6.5), or - TOEFL iBT 90 (Listening 22, Speaking 23, Reading 22, Writing 23) Certified 5-minute keyboarding test - Typing speed of 25 gross words per minute - Maximum of 5 errors

Career Prospects
Graduates may find employment as medical transcriptionists in health authorities, hospitals, medical and specialists’ offices, medical faculties in universities, and their own home-based businesses.

Courses
This program emphasizes written communication skills using specialized terminology and transcription relating to reports such as history and physical, consultation, radiology, laboratory, oncology, surgery, pathology, and discharge summaries. Also included in the program is a 3-week practicum, which provides the student with on-the-job experience. Classes are generally held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday to Thursday (subject to change).
Tuition fees and other fees are approximate and subject to change due to yearly increases without notice. Students will be
required to pay increased rates if the fees change at any time during the period of enrolment in the program. Tuition and
other fees are payable on a continuous basis based on the courses in each program and when those courses are scheduled.
Application and assessment fees are non-refundable.
