Mrs. Light’s Guide to Easy Origami.You do not need special paper for origami. Copy paper or junk mail or magazine pages work great! Fold Carefully!You do need a square. Here is how to make a square from a rectangular piece of paper.

Fold the short end of the paper to meet the long sideCut along the edge of the triangle.Unfold and you will have a perfect square

Here are some of the 10 different models I have for you to try. They come from the books Easy Origami and Super Simple Origami by John MontrollThe models are in order from simplest to hardestI drew details on my models with marker. Decorate them however you want!

CAT The cat is a simple model. Watch the directions to see when you turn over the model.

DOG Man’s best friend!Try to match the folds on each side as you make the ears. Rotate means to change the position of your paper as it is shown in the next picture.

FROGT This model will stand up with a little

patience. Watch for the step where you fold single layers of paper.

HORSEDo any of you ride?Watch for the unfold step in this model. Folding the ears behind can be tricky on the Horse. I missed a fold. Can you find it?

RABBITJust in time for spring! I have already seen some in my yard. I added a little fold at the sides of the face of my rabbit.

OWL My favorite bird!If you pull the wings forward and fold the back a little you shoud be able to make this owl stand. Can you make some smaller owlets? Try gluing some cotton balls on the tummy to show the down feathers.

CUPThis will hold water but you need to drink fast! It is better for crackers, popcorn and small snacks. If you add a handle, it could be a great basket.

PENGUINThis bird will stand easily.You may want to color the wings and head like I did.

SWANThis is one of my favorite models. I saw trumpeter swans out at the refuge this week! Make sure you turnover the model after step 4 so your swan has wings!

BOXNow that you have all these models. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a box to put them in?
