What is Medisim?

04

Medisim is a new way to model any healthcare system be it a ward, clinic, entire hospital or even a wider health economy. It allows you to create a functioning simulation of your system and populate it with data from your own systems. You can then easily modify, add or remove processes from this model to see what impact any change would have to the entire system without having to trial these changes in the real world (at great risk and cost).

You also have the option of adding data from Health iQ’s vast data warehouse to your own.

No new data is needed. It simply brings your data to life !

Model Construct a virtual representation of the system

SimulateVisualise the dynamic interactions and processes over time

Result Conclude with clear, compelling data in context

CRES Sim Make efficiency savings while minimising the impact on services

Cash-Releasing Efficiency Savings (CRES) targets are something all hospitals have to manage. The difficulty is in making the decision of where to make the savings, whilst minimising the impact on the delivery of services. CRES Sim allows you to build an exact working model of your department, fed by data from your own systems. You can then make adjustments to resources (lose a Band 8 staff member for example) and see how this impacts the wider system. You can even look to ways of adjusting your remaining resources to compensate for the reduction. This is all represented in a visual, interactive model that is easy to understand and makes the case for change clear and compelling.

QIPP Sim Improve quality and delivery with confidence

The Quality, Innovation, Productivity and Prevention (QIPP) programme has produced numerous examples of good practice across the country, which can be studied and replicated. However what is often lacking in these projects is a solid, data-supported case-for-change, resulting in changes being pushed through based on perceived success elsewhere.

QIPP Sim enables you to mitigate this risk, by allowing you to build a working model of any system and then construct alternative scenarios (such as QIPP best practice models from other trusts) and view the impact on the system as a whole. This gives you the confidence that any proposed changes will genuinely have a positive impact on your organisation.

You already know your ward or department well enough to know where your bottlenecks are, but to bring change you need to be able to demonstrate what you know to others, validated by strong and compelling evidence. We can simulate your department and the flow of patients through the various gateways using your own data (reinforced by additional data collections where necessary). This will allow us to pinpoint bottlenecks and test alternative service models to see if they resolve or compensate for the problems identified. You can then try to increase productivity through further scenario testing, all without the risk or cost of having to conduct live trials.

Benefits of Data Modelling & Simulation

Prove – Imagine the ease of building a compelling case for change or proving the scale of a problem if you could bring your data to life through simulation.

Prototype – Collective input into a simulation model can help to secure stakeholder buy-in, unify project teams and make proposals more tangible, practical and realistic.

Perfect – Simulation helps you to learn from your data by demonstrating how things will play out across an entire system, so you can refine and perfect your proposed solution.

Prepare – Implementing real-life change is often costly and difficult. Prepare for eventualities during implementation, such as resource gaps and bottle necks, using a life-like simulation.

What people are saying about us

09

Health iQ's simulation tool really helped us transform our services, identifying gaps and allowing us to plan for a future state. Their simulation and know-how has proven so successful that we are now looking to transform A&E, clinical engagements and several other pathways as a result.

This tool has aided our forward planning and has added real clinical value to our hospital.

Health iQ’s data modelling and simulation expertise has been invaluable for us. Before we had access to advanced simulation we had difficulty in designing accurate models that reflect our local situations in order to support decision making. We can now model current states and simulate our data to examine bottlenecks and inefficiencies in detail. We can also model future states to simulate the impact of changes to variables and resources.

This has made a real difference to how we plan and make cases for change.
