Writing Superstars From 4/5S

Each day I try to spend some time in a class within our school. Last week, when I was with 4/5S, I had the privi-lege of observing how their daily writing takes place. Dur-ing my visit, they were using parts of our playground for inspiration. I was impressed with the detail Saly and Zoie used to describe their observed spaces and have included them so everyone can enjoy them.

Saly – Green grass and white painted seats. Sitting hap-pily in the warm breeze, birds tweet happy songs and everything feels warm. It smells fresh all around with the fluttering and buzzing of the bugs. Tons of bushes and trees are surrounded by grass and fresh green leaves. Freshly cut green grass lays happily on the earth.

Zoie – Bright green trees and ferns frame the beautiful garden. Black pipe runs along the pathway which is full of woodchip. It’s a calm place to relax in. A light breeze passes through the green leaves that creates a quiet rustle. Bees buzz around the colourful flow-ers. The flowers are so col-ourful they are shining in the sun.

Thank you to our hard work-ing students who received an award during Week One of this term. Congratulations and keep working hard!

Application for Selective High School Placement for Year 7 in 2022

Selective high schools cater for intellectually gifted stu-dents who may otherwise be without sufficient classmates of their own academic standard. ICAS Results

Results from the Science, English, Mathematics and Digital Technologies exams have been returned. I would like to acknowledge Alex who received a distinction in the Science, Mathematics and Digital Technologies ex-aminations as well as Jem-ima who received a Merit certificate for her efforts in the Mathematics exam. Thank you to all the students who participated in these examinations. They are challenging assessments and all participants should be proud for tak-ing up the opportunity to connect and interpret informa-tion by making and expressing meaning – an area of our Learning Disposition Wheel.

Community PBL

The first two weeks of this term have seen two worthy re-cipients receive Community PBL awards. Zoe received her award for her idea and work in running the ‘Hope In A Suitcase’ fundraiser and Baeleigh received hers for getting her long hair cut to raise money. If you are aware of a Medowie student who is worthy of be-ing nominated to receive a Community PBL award, please ring the school on 49828222.

We Want To Hear From You!

A survey will be emailed to the primary carer of each fam-ily within our school tomorrow. The email will contain a link to complete a survey. Last term, our school completed a rigorous analysis of our school to complete a situation-al analysis. We have taken all the areas from this analy-sis that can be strengthened for possible focus areas for our new planning cycle- 2021-2024. We would like your input, as the success of a plan is dependent on everyone playing their role - students, staff and the community it is set out to achieve. I know everyone is time poor. To assist you in finding a little time in your day over the next week to complete the survey, a raffle ticket will be awarded to each family who completes it. The first 3 names pulled out of the raffle will receive a $50 gift card from either Coles, Woolworths or Green Hills Shopping Centre.

Book Parade and Incursion

The date for both the book parade and book week incur-sion is Thursday 29th October. Our book parade will be outside with all classes K-6 in the morning session. Class photographs will be on Facebook as soon as possible after the parade and more photographs will be posted on school media later to involve our community. The book week incursion is a live performance titled ‘The Greatest Discovery’; an interactive engaging show based on three of the book week CBCA books about two children who believe they have made the greatest discov-ery. Children cheer, sing and dance and get behind their favourite character. Notes and $7.50 per child are due by Tuesday 27th October. Here are a few last-minute costume ideas, I’m sure the students will know who they are!
