Meet ICE at Nor-Shipping The International Contract Engineering (ICE) Group is one of Europe’s largest independent ship design and marine engineering consul- tancies, with an annual capacity of more than ½ million professional engineering man-hours. Headquartered in the Isle of Man, the Group has been in business more than 40 years. It offers a full range of high caliber, cost-effective engineering and design services, either in its own design offices in Romania and the UK or at clients' sites. The ICE Group is today engaged with projects for the offshore oil & gas industry and with design of commercial, naval and coast guard ships. ICE undertakes the full design scope from conceptual design through class drawings, detail design and production information and also advises clients on build strategy, project management, procurement, shipyard layout and productivity. The Group’s experience includes design for new construction and conversion of a wide range of vessels including tankers, bulk carriers, passenger cruise vessels, ro-ro ferries, naval patrol vessels, frigates, corvettes, jack-up drilling rigs, LNG and LPG gas carriers, semi- submersible drilling rigs, offshore service vessels, FSOs, FPSOs, research vessels and fixed offshore production platforms. Clients include leading shipyards, ship owners and offshore industry contractors throughout Europe as well as in Brazil, Canada, China, India, Japan, Korea, the Middle East, Singapore and the US. Davie: Back in Business Davie – Canada’s largest shipyard – has been in busi- ness for more than 150 years and has a proud track record of having built a wide range of commercial and naval ships plus oil rigs and heavy industrial products for the nuclear, power generation and petrochemical indus- tries. ICE’s Chairman years ago served in positions as planning manager, project manager and technical direc- tor of Davie, and in recent years a number of ICE employees have been seconded to Davie to assist with design of advanced offshore service vessels. International Contract Engineering (ICE) will again be exhibiting at Nor-Shipping, the major maritime industry event of the year in Oslo, Norway. The exhibition will take place June 4 – 7 at the Norway Trade Fairs at Lillestrom. We look forward to seeing clients and other friends at our stand no. DD 522, Hall D – inside the Romanian Pavilion. ICE is pleased that the Davie Canada shipyard in Lévis, Quebec has now successfully re-started activities under new owners. ICE has re-established its working relationship with Davie and is now supporting completion of the electrical design for the three CECON offshore construction vessels, for which design and construction were suspended over the last three years. ICE’s work is being performed in Tribon M3. The picture shows an artist’s impression of the CECON offshore construction vessel. The scrubber technology is one option for meeting stricter limitations on SOx emissions from ships, initially appli-cable for ships trading in any so-called emission control area (“ECA”).

Similar scrubbers have been used for onshore installations, but this prototype development will be the first time the MES concept is implemented on a vessel and ICE is proud to take part in this endeavour.

In mid-March three ICE representatives visited the ship when she was docked for the 5-year inspection in Varna, Bulgaria, in order to assess available space for the new equipment and to discuss arrangement options with the Owner’s representative.

Scope of Work: Detail design for steel structure, outfit-ting, piping Year: 2006 -08Shipyard: Viktor Lenac, CroatiaOwner/Operator: Helix Energy Solutions Group Inc, USA. (Photo courtesy of Helix Energy Solutions)

Scrubber Development ProjectICE has won a contract with Marine Exhaust Solu-tions, Inc. (MES) of Canada for developing a proto-type scrubber installation for main engine exhaust gases.

The innovative concept design was developed by MES. ICE’s scope of work is to optimize the MES design to facilitate installation of the equipment inside the funnel of a chemical tanker owned by Rederiet M.H. Simonsen ApS, Denmark. The optimization consists of size reduction and simplifi-cation of the auxiliary piping systems.

ICE at AVEVA Seminar In early March, Icepronav Engineering attended the AVEVA Marine & Offshore Seminar held in Malmo, Sweden.

Nicu Olaru, AVEVA Marine System Administrator, Catalin Axente, AVEVA Marine Developer, Felix Stanciulescu, Senior Engineer Hull, and Claudiu Nastase, CAD/CAM/CAE System Engineer repre-sented ICE at this event.

Over the two-day event AVEVA support and develop-ment teams and customers from across the region made interesting presentations. The seminar provided a great opportunity to learn more about the latest release of AVEVA's software solutions for the ship-building industry. The picture shows attendees at the meeting in Malmo.
