Infloor President, Michael Willburn,recently talked with Nick Kostora ofACHR News about the importantfactors for hydronic prospects, andmore. The big question for mostcontractors is whether hydronics willbe a viable addition to theirbusinesses, especially considering first-cost obstacles that may seem toosteep to overcome.

“The transition to hydronic heatingfrom HVAC is quite easy, in myopinion,” said Michael. “We are stillperforming heating and coolingcalculations before a project starts.Whether you’re moving air or water,many of the same laws apply. Many ofour HVAC customers have made the

transition to hydronics and continueto do both HVAC and hydronics inmany parts of the country due to theneed for cooling.”

Michael also talked to Allison Deerr ofReeves Journal about the benefits ofElectric Cable radiant heating.

“Electric cable is still a great productfor small spaces like bathrooms,kitchens, and entryways. It also is agreat choice for anywhere tile,marble, and stone surfaces are used,”Michael shared.

Meet Infloor’s New National Sales Manager ContinuedJerry’s first order of business will be going back throughInfloor’s customer list and contacting industryprofessionals. His message is simple, “We serve ourcustomers beyond their expectations,” he shared. Andwhile that may be a tall order, it is a practice Infloor hasalways followed, making Jerry a perfect fit. “Service withintegrity are not just two words that sound good,” he said.“It is a way of life that goes right to my core.”

Jerry earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing andBusiness from the University of Maryland, and attendedLincoln Technical Institute for a certification in HVAC. Heis licensed as a master plumber, sub-code inspector, andmore. Jerry is also a veteran of the United States Army,actively serving from 1973-1979, and continued to servehis country as an Army Reservist until 2004.

Jerry currently lives in Colorado Springs, CO. In his sparetime, he enjoys playing golf, off-roading, and walking withhis wife and their yellow lab, which they fondly namedCoors Lite.

Understanding Insulation R-ValueR-value is a measure of thermalresistance or the resistance to heatflow, which is a way of indicatinginsulation's ability to stop heat frommoving through it. The higher the R-value, the greater the insulatingpower.

Heat moves in three ways:conduction, convection, or radiation.R-value addresses conduction: thetransfer of heat through a material(your walls). Insulation is labeled bytotal R-value. Two factors determinethat number: the thickness of theinsulation and the insulating ability ofthe material. For example, fiberglass

of the same thickness can differ in R-value because of their differentdensities.

Generally, walls have insulation ratedat R-19, and the roof should be R-30or R-40. However, you can kick thatup a notch and shoot for the higherstandards by the Passive HouseInstitute US set at R-30 for walls andan R-60 for the roof.

Proper insulation can reduce yourheating and cooling costs by 30% andmay be eligible to receive a federal taxcredit.
