Ken Bryan – Account Manager, Scotland & North East

I have worked for British Airways for 32 years in a variety of roles, in Customer Service, as Manager of a British Airways Travel Shop and now in a Commercial role.

My goal is to represent British Airways, internally with other relevant departments, and externally with key agents, to ensure the potential of the regional selling market is highlighted and opportunities delivered.

Regional Trade Newsletter – July 2011

BRITISH AIRWAYS REGIONAL OPERATIONRegular and convenient flights from regional airports to London Heathrow Terminal 5 connect your local customers to our extensive global network. Flight Connections is located at the heart of Terminal 5, and customers should allow 60 minutes to transfer to their onward flight.

British Airways at Manchester

British Airways is one of the largest airlines, in terms of passenger numbers, operating from Manchester Airport.

A total of 86 flights a week operate in British Airways colours to and from Terminal 3.

That includes eight return daily week day flights and six return weekend flights to Heathrow, and four return daily flights to and from Gatwick.

In addition British Airways franchise partner Sun Air operates return double-daily week day services and a single Sunday service to Billund in Denmark.

The British Airways mainline services cater for both point-to-point business and also business and leisure passengers connecting with the airline’s worldwide network from both Heathrow and Gatwick airports.

British Airways also codeshares with American Airlines and Finnair on flights from Manchester, offering passengers more flexibility.

The daily American Airlines flights to New York and Chicago both carry British Airways flight numbers as does the daily Finnair service to Helsinki.

Business and First class passengers and full fare domestic passengers as well as premium card holders travelling on British Airways and American Airlines flights are entitled to use the Terraces Lounge at Manchester Airport.

British Airways at Newcastle and a new codeshare with Flybe

British Airways operates a daily service of 6 flights per day from Newcastle to London Heathrow, and up to 4 flights per day from Newcastle to London Gatwick, where there is the added advantage of a new codeshare with Flybe.

This means that customers wishing to access British Airways London Gatwick destinations including the Caribbean, Florida, Maldives, Mauritius and a significant number of European destinations, can now fly from Newcastle to London Gatwick with Flybe and connect onto their British Airways flight using a through ticket and with their baggage checked all the way through.

British Airways in Scotland

British Airways has increased capacity on its Glasgow – London routes by more than 18 percent.

The additional seats have been achieved by introducing a fifth daily service between Glasgow and London City Airport and operating larger aircraft on early morning flights from Glasgow to Heathrow and to the Docklands airport.

BA CityFlyer has also increased its Edinburgh – London City schedule from seven return flights to eight, an increase of 15 percent in the capacity on the route.

Pauline Farquhar, British Airways manager at Glasgow Airport said: “We appreciate the importance of air links to the Scottish economy, connecting those involved in the business and leisure sectors with customers, clients and partners across the globe.

“We have reacted to changes in the Glasgow market to put on additional capacity to both Heathrow and London City, which will benefit our existing customers and those who may be new to our services.

British Airways continues to operate the most extensive schedule between Scotland and London than any other carrier connecting both inbound and outbound passengers with hundreds of destinations on its global network and those of Iberia, our joint business partners in IAG, American Airlines and the oneworld Alliance.”

The current British Airways Monday – Friday schedule is as follows:

Return Services

LHR LGW LCY Total

Glasgow 8 4 5 17

Edinburgh 9 4 8 21

Aberdeen 7 – – 7

Total 24 8 13 45

In addition, British Airways codeshare agreement with Flybe means customers can now fly from Inverness and Aberdeen to London Gatwick with Flybe and connect onto the British Airways network using a through ticket.
