THE ORANGE COUNTY MUSTANG CLUB In 1987 a group of individuals, who appreciated the beauty and performance of the Ford Mustang, joined together to form the Orange County Mustang Club. Their purpose was to promote the restoration, preservation and enjoyment of the Ford Mustang. To perpetuate this goal members, pay early dues, meet monthly, promote car shows, hold social activities, take cruises, and attend parades and other activities to foster their love for the Ford Mustang. Any person who owns or appreciates the Ford Mustang, no matter what model or year, is welcome to join, Ownership is not obligatory, but enthusiasm is.

A MESSAGE FROM YOUR PRESIDENT
Hot August Nights are upon us, with the warm weather bringing many activities for our growing OCMC membership. As of our last membership report, it looks like we are north of 480 members, which is a substantial increase since the new board took over in January. Thanks to our board members and particularly to Membership Chair Teri Sulzer, who does a spectacular job for us. We are implementing a new approach to the Flag Salute this month in order to recognize our members who are service Veterans. One Vet will be selected each month to lead us in the salute, and will be given recognition in the newsletter and some sort of a keepsake award. We are thinking a personalized mug but we will work out the details at the next board meeting. The Nominations Committee has been selected and consists of 5 board members as established in the new by-laws. The members are myself; Vice President Paul Montesano; Secretary Kathie Thompson; Membership Chair Teri Sulzer; and Parliamentarian Larry Rhinehart. If you wish to serve on the board please contact one or more of the nominating committee members. The contact information for each is published below. WE NEED YOU!!!! VP Paul and I are getting the details of the McCoy-Mills Show on Sunday September 8 finalized. The smaller space means you need to get your entry in quickly. Entrants will get a lunch ticket; we are working out a cash pay lunch for guests and hopefully will be able to provide more information at the August general meeting. Lastly, another exciting new event. VP Paul has arranged a pre-release screening for us of the movie Ford v. Ferrari on Thursday, November 14. Stay tuned for more details !! This promises to be fun! Chat and Chew July 16, 2019
We had a nice big group for last month’s Chat and Chew
breakfast. Jan and Del joined us for the first time as did our
OCMC president, Craig Kamansky. We celebrated Henry’s
birthday, number unrevealed, with a rousing rendition of the
appropriate song. The Waterfront Café presented him with a
bowl of ice cream with a candle on top. There was some
wheeling and dealing going on with the door prizes as Dirty
Jeff traded his prize for Bob’s. Always a fun get together.
Join us next time!

This month we honor Frank Feliciano who has been an OCMC member since October 2015. He joined the Army at 16 with a fake birth certificate, which the VA hospital caught years later. His inspiration for enlisting was the pro-American, John Wayne. Frank saw John’s Green Beret movie on TV and became encouraged to sign up. Besides, he was tired of all the flag burning and protesting. His father said it didn’t matter what Frank did so long as it wasn’t a clerk typist. Frank couldn’t type anyway, so. . .
Frank tells us that his Army classification is, well, classified. He was a light weapon specialist M202 attached below M16 203—fired grenades, and was trained up to large machine guns. He doesn’t remember how many years he was in the service due to a big rig vs big rig accident in 1999. He used his head to break the steering wheel in half and that left him disabled with memory loss.
His prized possession is a custom-made leather holster exactly like the one John Bianchi, Master Leather Craftsman, made for John Wayne. Nice! He owns a 2015 3.7 V6 ruby red Mustang convertible with gull wing doors. When Frank was 2 years old, his grandfather purchased a 1961 Ford Falcon. The car has been restored to its original glory and Frank loves to take it to charity car shows.
Frank has been married to Daura for almost 21 years and declares he got lucky when she found him. Early on, some misfortune befell his sister-in-law and the Feliciano’s got custody of all 5 of her kids. Then his miracle daughter was born, who is now 15 years old.
Frank lives by his grandfather’s motto: I read the Obituary first thing in the morning. If my name isn’t on the list, I know it’s going to be a good day!

Scott and Marilyn Feldmeier heard about OCMC while attending the Steve McQueen Car Show in Chino Hills. They joined the club to meet new friends and connect to lots of car events. They own two Mustangs: a 1966 “C” Code Fastback, red with white stripes, and a 2003 Boss 302 in school bus yellow. They are true Mustang enthusiasts, having owned a 1970 Boss 302, a 1965 Fastback and a 1969 Mach 1 in the past.
Their 1966 Fastback was the green screen car seen in the movie Bucket List. He purchased the car ten years after the movie released. The car had been purchased for the movie in 2006 in New York and it was painted white with blue stripes. After Warner Brothers acquired three cars, the director, Rob Reiner, wanted them all painted red with white stripes. This would show better on film. They painted all three cars the factory candy apple red with white stripes. Rob Reiner was not happy with the color. He wanted a brighter red, so they were all painted a GM color of victory red, a much brighter red. Scott’s car was used for all scenes with the actors and the car performed none of the stunts. Another car was the contact car. That car was used for all scenes where the car made contact with the Dodge Challenger on the racetrack. That car is currently residing in the Midwest. A third car was the jump car and is no longer with us. It was totaled during filming. Scott has all the documentation for his car and was fortunate enough to speak to the owner of “Ghost Light Industries” that did all the transformations. He also learned that out of the three cars, his car was the only four-speed manual. The other two were automatics.
Scott acquired his movie star car through Gateway Classics. He kept the exterior the same as seen in the movie. The car needed a lot of TLC when it came to the mechanics. The rear-end needed to be rebuilt, tail shaft seal was replaced, brakes needed replacing on all four corners and electronic ignition was installed. A lot of other fixes were smaller mechanical issues under the hood. Paul Gammerino and his team from Mustangs & Fast Fords in Santa Ana took care of all those. He says they did great work! Scott did a lot of the interior work himself: replaced both door panels, installed a new glove box door and steering wheel. He’s currently replacing the dash.
As for the Boss 302? It is still factory stock all the way down to the original tires. It has 7K miles on it. Aside from loving on their Mustangs (their favorite car event is Ponies at the Pike), the Feldmeiers love to go camping at Ocotillo Wells and take river trips. They just acquired a golden retriever puppy named Shelby that takes up a lot of their time. Thanks for sharing your Mustang story, Scott and Marilyn. It was nice to get to know you and your Mustangs!

#1 Tip – Always read and follow directions on the back of every bottle
The 5 Step Paint Care Cycle
Step 1– Washing The removal of loose contaminants from any surface Step 2– Surface Prep The removal of bonded contaminants and/or stubborn defects that washing cannot remove Step 3– Polishing The creation of brilliant high gloss (optional step) Step 4– Protecting The preservation of brilliant high gloss Step 5– Maintaining The frequent removal of fresh contaminants before they have a chance bond or etch into the surface
Washing For best results, NEVER wash your car using a household detergent, as they will strip away wax protection and promote pre-mature oxidation To minimize the chance of water spotting, always wash your vehicle in the shade, and make sure surface is cool to the touch Before washing your vehicle, rinse the entire vehicle first with a strong stream of water. This helps cool vehicle and rinse away loose debris which may lead to scratching To help keep your mitt clean and minimize the risk of scratching while washing, always wash your vehicle from top down, and use two buckets, 1 for the wash solution, and 1 for rinsing your mitt) To reduce the time in which it takes to dry your vehicle, use a stream of water, not a spray on your final rinse. This will sheet the water off of your vehicle, leaving much less water to dry Always use premium quality was mitts and drying cloths to reduce the chance of swirling the finish Ultimate Wash & Wax Anywhere is a great “rinse less” car wash when used correctly
Evaluation Always wash and dry car before evaluating the surface Use your eyes to see “defects” – Swirls, scratches, oxidation, stains, etc… Use your hands to feel “ bonded contaminants” – Overspray, tree sap mist, fallout, etc… Use two kinds of light when possible to see all defects (sunlight and fluorescent are the 2 easiest to utilize)
Clay Bars (Used to remove bonded contaminants) Knead your clay bar into a flat wafer in order to use it Use Quik Detailer as a lubricant If you drop your piece of clay on the floor, replace it with a new one Claying is for removing things on top of the surface, not swirls, scratches or etchings which are below the surface Claying removes contaminants without removing paint and without instilling scratches in the process Claying removes everything off the surface including wax Claying restores smoothness to the paint Claying enables your choice of car wax to stick or adhere to the paint better so they’ll last longer.
Paint Cleaners (Used to remove below surface defects) Paint cleaners, like Ultimate Compound, do not need to dry before removing Paint cleaners need to be worked into the finish, they are not wipe on, wipe off products If the defect is not completely removed after the first application, a second, third and sometimes fourth application may be necessary. A defect, such as a deep scratch, that goes through the clear coat, cannot be corrected without repainting or applying touch up paint. Paint cleaners remove everything off the surface of the paint including wax, so after using a paint cleaner you must re-apply a protective coating wax
Polishing & Waxing For best results, always apply polishes and waxes in shade and on a cool surface. For easy removal of waxes and polishes, always apply a uniform, thin coat. For maximum protection, apply 2 thin uniform coats to lower rocker panels in winter. For maximum protection, apply 2 thin uniform coats to top surfaces in summer. To help extend you wax protection, always wash your vehicle using a safe, high-quality car wash. For best results when removing polishes and waxes, use a high-quality premium microfiber cloth. Using an orbital or Dual Action Polisher can make applying waxes and polishes very easy and quick.
Spray Detailers When applying mist and wipe spray detailers like Ultimate Quik Detailer, always work on a cool surface and in the shade. For fast removal of spray detailers, always use a high-quality premium microfiber. Keep a bottle of a mist and wipe paint detailer in your trunk at all times, this will help in those quick clean up situations.
Tire Care For best results, always pre-clean your tires using a safe tire cleaner and brush before applying any type of tire protectant. This will allow the tire protectant to look better and last longer. After cleaning your tires, allow them to dry before applying any tire protectant. To reduce sling, always remove excess tire protectant from tires and wheels before driving your vehicle. It is a good time to check air pressure while working on tires and wheels.
Wheel Care Determine what type of wheel you have before choosing the right wheel cleaner, some cleaners can cause damage if not used on the right type of wheel It’s safer to use a less aggressive cleaner and a safe wheel brush to clean brake dust Wheel must be cooled before any cleaning is possible to prevent staining Spot test wheel cleaner to safeguard against possible staining When using a wheel cleaner, be cautious of the plastic center caps. A cleaner might effect them differently than the wheel Be cautious when working around aftermarket brakes components
Interior Tips Always match the correct product to the surface being treated, (leather, vinyl, plastic, cloth) Product like Quik Interior Detailer can be very helpful for keeping your interior looking new on a regular basis Detailing brushes come in handy for removing dust in tight areas like heater and air conditioning vents Test new products in inconspicuous areas before applying to the entire surface

“OUTLAWS INVADE ARROWHEAD !” On Saturday July 20th, we attended the Arrowhead “Clean Air
Cruise”. This is the longest running OCMC cruise, and I
attended my first one in 1994. It is a “Must Do” event,
combining Gambling (Poker) and performance driving on
Mountain Roads (another form of gambling if you know what I
mean),,,, so what’s there not to like ? Plus you get to enjoy the
cool mountains and escape the heat and smog down below.
This year was the Biggest by far, with over 55 Beautiful
Mustangs making the trip. The Board picked a great stop over
at “Total Cost Involved Engineering” Hot Rod Shop. After
leaving the shop we were treated to an inpromptu navigational
car rally, thanks to “Jersey” Paulie Montesano’s Route
instructions, which had virtually nothing to do with where we
were going (Sorry Paulie, it happens to the best of us cruise
organizers !!). We then headed up the mountain, at the speed
limit of course...well maybe.
We were joined on this cruise by Brand New Outlaws: Jaimee
“Body Shot” Johnson had her green convertible “new edge”,
with Toni “Trouble” Trumbo riding shotgun. This duo was
immediately coined “Thelma and Louise” for more reasons
than I can state. Also attending the cruise, we welcome new
Outlaws Mike Matonic, Sandra “Wonder Woman” Moura,
Jonathan Serrano and Chad Novak .
The destination Pizza place was excellent as always, and
several of us scored on our poker hands. After lunch we needed
to “De Brief” the cruise of course, and what do ya know, five
minutes away there was a great little place that happened to
serve refreshments called “The Dogwood Tavern”. Per the
Outlaw Code, Those of us who won at poker were soon
financially lightened by having to buy drinks. We enjoyed
watching “Frankie V” Valdez play pool (we all carry TWO
professional pool cues with us, right ???). Frankie is very good,
so beware, there is a Hustler amongst us. Thanks OCMC for
putting on a great cruise !
