Statement of needPhysicians and cardiac care associates are required to maintain up-to-date knowledge of the latest clinical developments in the practice of cardiology to improve patient outcomes. The Ohio Chapter-ACC Annual Meeting will include education that provides needs-based learning covering a thorough overview of pregnant women and heart disease, LVADS, surgery and non-surgical options, quality indicators, arrhythmias and pulmonary hypertension.
Overall goalIncrease aptitude about quality indicators and improve competence of proficiency in clinical decision-making to bring about quality patient care.
learner Objectives:Upon completion of this program, participants should be able to:
■ Decrease maternal and fetal mortality and morbidity in pregnant women with pre-existing heart disease by improving diagnosis, management and appropriate counseling.
■ Reduce complications of non-cardiac surgery by reviewing evidence-based guidelines.
■ Discuss ways to provide patients with heart failure with appropriate referrals for LVADS.
■ Analyze how to provide patients with pulmonary hypertension with appropriate diagnosis and optimal management.
■ Improve morbidity and mortality by appropriate use of cardiac robotic surgery.
■ Recognize and differentiate between benign vs. malignant forms of ventricular arrhythmias and to understand when non-ICD therapy is appropriate and even preferred in the treatment of ventricular tachycardia in order to improve outcomes and prevent sudden death.

Opportunity to present research!All current Ohio fellows in a cardiology training program are invited to present their research (past or present) during the poster session, scheduled for Saturday, October 18, from 7:00-7:55 a.m. and 10:15-11:00 a.m. Eligible posters may present recent data, case study or information that has been presented previously at a local or national meeting. The abstracts will be judged in advance to select the top two abstracts for oral presentation. The Ohio Chapter-ACC Annual Meeting will include education that provides needs-based learning covering a thorough overview of pregnant women and heart disease, LVADS, surgery and non-surgical options, quality indicators, arrhythmias and pulmonary hypertension.

■ Decrease maternal and fetal mortality and morbidity in pregnant women with pre-existing heart disease by improving diagnosis, management and appropriate counseling.
■ Reduce complications of non-cardiac surgery by reviewing evidence-based guidelines.
■ Discuss ways to provide patients with heart failure with appropriate referrals for LVADS.
■ Analyze how to provide patients with pulmonary hypertension with appropriate diagnosis and optimal management.
■ Improve morbidity and mortality by appropriate use of cardiac robotic surgery.
■ Recognize and differentiate between benign vs. malignant forms of ventricular arrhythmias and to understand when non-ICD therapy is appropriate and even preferred in the treatment of ventricular tachycardia in order to improve outcomes and prevent sudden death.
