PRESIDENT’S REPORT Hi members. Well the 72nd AGM has passed and I must welcome new executive member Donald Cable. It was a busy month for our Chef and his staff catering for 200 plus Aims Games participants and thanks to all who helped in the dining room. Another successful snooker tournament was held last weekend. As you know we are commemorating 100 years of Passchendaele. All members and the public are invited to a Passchendaele exhibition here in the RSA carpark from 6th October to 17th November. Open 7 days from 9.30am – 3.30pm. We also have a Children of WW1 Veterans afternoon tea on Sunday 8th October 2pm – 4pm. Then on Saturday 14th October at 2pm – 2.40pm we have a Passchendaele Memorial Service, Hauraki Patriots DFMC at the Cenotaph, Marine Parade. I am going to have the privilege to lay a wreath on the 11th October at the Menin Gate at Ypres, Belgium on behalf of the Mount RSA. The Menin Gate Memorial to the Missing is a war memorial in Ypres, Belgium, dedicated to the British and Commonwealth soldiers who were killed in the Ypres Salient of World War I and whose graves are unknown. Reminding you we have two great shows coming up not to be missed - Shane Cortese 4th November and The Eagles Tribute 25th November. Derek Williams President
WOMEN’S SECTION September was a busy month with both Club and Women's section AGMs. Our women's section AGM went well with all officers going back unopposed. It was nice to see a good turnout for our meeting considering it was such a nasty day. Our entertainment was Ray Solomon who once again entertained us with some great music. The year is fast coming to an end, this month we have Telstar to entertain us, then our final meeting of the year November 29th with Upbeat as entertainment. Remember ladies we have our gift exchange so please bring a small gift to the value of $5, as we have asked Santa to come along and give them out. Hope this finds you all well. Those that are poorly a speedy recovery. Look forward to seeing you on October 25th . Kieran Jensen President
RSA MANAGERS REPORT Welcome to our October edition of our Newsletter. At our AGM held on Sunday 17th September we announced a new committee. Your new committee is as follows: President - Derek Williams (unopposed) Vice Presidents - Barry Kellas (unopposed) - Arthur King (unopposed) Committee - Donald Cable, Norm Harvey, Kieran Jensen, Bill Newell, Alex Pluck, Darryl Wheeler Congratulations to Donald Cable as the new member to the team. The AIMS games week is now over and a big week it was for Munro's. Well done to the kitchen team as we prepared 1000 meals over the 5 days. For service, a big mention to Yvonne our new evening Duty Manager, Gabrielle and Stella - well done, and finally we had a lot of help from the Executive members (many hands make light work) thank you Arthur & Diane King, Barry and Jean Kellas, Alex and Jenny Pluck, Seddon Powley, Judith Brandhoj from raffles as you all made a huge difference and your assistance was much appreciated. Watch out for our November Entertainment Bonanza as we have a busy schedule with two Show nights, the first being Shane Cortese "Class of 58 Rock n Roll Show" scheduled for the 4th November. We also have an Eagles Tribute scheduled for November 25th. Melbourne Cup fever will also be upon us on Tuesday 7th and the Club rooms will be the place to be with lots of fun and activities being arranged via the entertainment committee and the Punters Club. Don't for-get sweepstakes will be available from 10am Monday 6th Nov. I hope everyone has noticed the entrance to Munro's Archway. A big thank you Arthur King for managing this project and of course Lionel Smith and his expertise. I was in the club on Sunday and was very impressed with the Country Club en-tertainment and the atmosphere helped by a snooker tournament and a busy lunch in Munro's. If you haven't been to one of the country shows you should make the effort as it is a great way to spend an afternoon. We are trialling Line Dancing lessons which will be on Saturday 21st and 28th October. So if you have always been interested in learning how to line dancing here is your chance, beginner sessions (first two are FREE) will be run by Heather Coleman, see the add below on this page for more information. Some concerns have been raised at the speed at which some drivers are travelling within our car parks. Please do be mindful when driving in or out of the car park. Thank you and enjoy the extra hour of day light and be safe, Andrew Buenter

The 1st of October is our next tournament on the calendar, to be followed on Sunday 3rd December by our Christmas extravaganza tournament. Put the date in your calendars and ensure you are able to come along and join in the Christmas cheer. In November, the RSA Nationals will be held in Hastings. A large number of our members will be attending this event, and we would like to wish all the players a great time at the tournament. Events such as these are wonderful for fostering fellowship amongst other RSA members from around the country. No doubt you will have met people in the past that you will enjoy meeting again. All the very best for what I am sure will be a very enjoyable tournament.

FISHING CLUB
Even though the weather was freezing the spirits were high for the 9 men and women who ventured out on the overnight fishing trip from Whangamata, the sea was calm and the fish were certainly biting with all bringing home a chilly bin FULL of Snapper and Tarakihi the smiles on faces showed they had all had a good time. We have a local trip going out Monday 2nd October and a Whangamata trip 30th October, so here’s hoping for calm seas. Our yearly Coromandel trip is only a few weeks away, anyone who is keen to go please get back to me by Wednesday 4th October. Our subs are now due just $5 00. One day the rain will stop, the sun will shine, the sea will sparkle and the fish will say come and catch me Ha Ha Jeanette Club Captain
Mt RSA COUNTRY MUSIC CLUB Our September concert on Sunday the 24th was a fantastic afternoon and was a lovely way to celebrate our 1st Birthday. Yes, it’s been 12 months since we launched the Country Music Club and our monthly Sunday afternoon concerts have gone from strength to strength culminating in our September club day with an outstanding array of talent. As well as our Guest Artists for the day –Kevin and Kay Tappin who sang some beautiful harmonies, we invited some of our previous Guest Artists to come back and perform including Dennis August, Janice Roughan, Merv McEnteer and Jade O'Brien. 10-year-old Jade is a finalist in the NZCMA Entertainer of the year Awards to be held in Rotorua on October 14th. As well as these very talented artists we had the pleasure of having the President of the NZ Country Music Association Michael Tipping and his wife Ashley sing for us. They sing under the Duo name of “Coopers Run “and are widely known and respected throughout the Country Music scene both here and overseas. So, with this collection of talent and supported by other singers including Lloyd Te Kani, Julz Hulton, Bruce Strong, Gayle Turner and Gloria Johnson the recipe was there for an outstanding afternoon of Country Music and it certainly was. Once again, the band was outstanding with Lyndsay (Rhythm), Ron (Drums), Gary (Bass) and Selwyn Rangitutia (Lead) giving all the singers great support. Our October concert is set down for Sunday 29th October 1pm to 3.30pm. Please note our Country Music show is always held on the LAST SUNDAY OF THE MONTH starting at 1pm. Our Guest Artist is Kylie Austin. Kylie is a very talented singer and has won many awards both here and in Australia. In 2007 Kylie was named Trans-Tasman Entertainer of the year. Mark the date in your diary and don’t miss this
show.
