consequently supplied as options.
The addition of an automatic timingswitch enables the basic MP600 meltindexer to perform Procedure B tests.• Precision optical encoder enables
piston position measurement tobetter than 0.025 mm (0.001 in.).
• Programmable starting positionsand piston travel distances (mm orin.) for up to 10 captures in a single test.
• Calculates and displays CaptureTime, Flow Rate (Melt Index), andVolume Rate of each capture.
• Additional display choices includeApparent Shear Stress, Shear Rate, and Viscosity.
PPDT-600 AUTOMATIC TIMING SWITCH For Automatically Timed (Procedure B) Testing
• Calculates Melt Density using a cut-off weight and built-in subroutine.
• Automatically selects proper pistontravel distance, 6.35 or 25.4 mm (0.25 or 1 in.) for flow rate calculation.
• Real time display of flow rate or volume rate.
• Real time display of piston height.

Software
Tinius Olsen has built upon its long history of providing solutions to anenormous variety of testing problems to develop Horizon, a comprehensivesoftware program that makes testing
simple, precise, and efficient.Whether the test sample ismetal, paper, composite, polymer, rubber, textile, or a micro component,
Tinius Olsen’s Horizon software goes far beyond
data collection and presentation. Itwill help you automate your operations, from R&D to the charting and analysisof QC testing. Horizon provides alibrary of standard, specific, and appli-cation-focused test routines that havebeen developed in close cooperationwith our customers around the worldand to the standards they are using.
Among the many valuable features offered by Horizon are: a test routinelibrary; simultaneous multiple machinecontrol; test, output, method, and result editors; and multilayered security. This software is designed for data acquisition, data analysis, and closed loop control of nearly all Tinius Olsen testing machines.
Horizon also includes the following:• Generation of user
customized reports• Standard SPC
programs for X-bar, R, and frequency distributions/histograms
• Ability to recall, replot and rescale test curves
• Recall of data that spans different test modules
• User-configurablemachine parameter and control settings
• Multilingual capabilities
Horizon is rich with capabilitiesthat improve productivity andenable you to build, access, and use a modern, powerfulmaterials testing database. It employs the latest Windowsenvironments to create an intuitive user experience. Built-in tutorials, on-line help, and help desk access provide additional user support.
• Integral encoder for control and display of weight support position.
• Automatic swing-away weight platform for easy cleaning access.
• Safely contains weights.
The combination of an automatic timing switch and motorized weightsupport/lowering and lifting deviceequips the MP600 for additional automated tests. • Automates testing cycle by
positioning weight support to a preselected height and applyingselected load after preheat interval.

Purge System for MP600
Tinius Olsen offers a pneumaticpurge and cleaning device for usewith the MP600. It is designed toincrease productivity and reduceoperator fatigue. The device makesMFR and MVR testing almost auto-matic, produces more consistenttest results, and assists operatorswith the cleaning process. The system is especially recommendedfor resin manufacturers, com-pounders, and processors, someof whom may conduct up to 50melt flow tests each day. • Works most efficiently on models
equipped with motorized weightlowering system and automatictiming switch.
• Allows operators to omit theweighing process and simplypour material into bore of meltflow indexer.
• Permits test to be started bypressing button, or if controlledby Tinius Olsen’s EP600 software, by clicking mouse.
• Can be reactivated to push anyremaining material from bore.
• Cleaning only requires insertionof cleaning tool and cleaningpatch, then activation of cleaning ram.
