Respect Assembly Last Friday saw us hold the first House run assembly. We will be holding one of these per term, each focusing on one of our school values. This assembly was run by Chisholm House and focused on our value of Respect. It began with a short movie that the students had made, interviewing different staff and students around the school, asking them what they thought Respect should look like around different parts of our school. The major theme to come out of this was that we should all be looking out for each other and taking care of one another. After this the students presented some self-made certificates to students that they had noticed modelling what Respect should look like. These were presented to Micah Roberts from Year’s 7/8, Kate Melville from Year’s 9 and 10, and Emily Hargreaves from the senior school. Well done to all students who presented and participated. We look forward to our assembly focusing on Responsibility in Term 3. Jump Jam students preparing to perform at Jump Jam Extravaganza in Timaru on Thursday.

The boys are called Waimo Freaks - Azarius Apiata, Micah Roberts and Codey van Duinen coached by Mrs Donaldson and Lauriann Hodder.

Three student Doctors visited our school as part of a project run by the NZ Rural General Practice Network to promote careers in rural health. They gave a short presentation about careers in health, what it’s like to be a tertiary student and what pathways and opportunities are open to them. This was followed with pupils working in small groups and engaging with them in interactive workshops, teaching topics such as human anatomy, blood pressure measurement, reflex testing and CPR. This was opportunity for students to try the equipment and learn basic principles in a fun, safe and interactive setting.
