Maysville Community & Technical College is collecting shoes as part of a fund-raising project, as well as helping impoverished nations in Central Amer-ica and Africa. Bins have been placed around the cam-pus and drop-offs can be made through March 17th.

Fleming-Mason Energy is awarding four free trips to Washington D.C. to high school juniors. To apply, go to www.fme.coop to download an application.

Congratulations to Matt Wallingford, who was named Maysville’s new City Manager on February 11.

On February 11, The Kentucky Gateway Museum Center celebrated Gayle McKay’s 40th year anniversary as an employee. Congratulations Gayle!

St. Patrick School celebrated Catholic Schools Week with the theme “Faith, Academics, and Service.” The week was filled with fun activities each day.

Vicki Steigleder, Executive Director of the Maysville-Mason County Chamber of Commerce, is working with community leaders and businesses to have Mason County certified as a Work Ready Community. This involves employees being tested for the NCRC (National Career Readiness Certificate). This test as-sesses an individual skills in basic math, fulfilling or-ders, and measuring air particles.

The Housing Authority of Maysville is proud to announce upcoming changes to their apartments, computer lab, and veteran assistance programs. New amenities will be added to the 260 units and veterans can get help with rental assistance.

MCMS students partnered with Stober Drives to par-ticipate in making a video for the “What’s Cool About Manufacturing” competition. The video included an introduction of each student, interview of Stober em-ployees, and a video of the facility. With their hard work and dedication the students won top video honors. Congratulations!

Congratulations to C.J. Hunter. He has been ap-pointed Executive Director of the Maysville and Ma-son County Library and the Historical and Scientific Association, which operates the Kentucky Gateway Museum Center.

Education Shareholders are invited to attend one of Commissioner, KY Dept. of Education, Stephen Pruitt’s, upcoming town hall meetings. He will be embarking on an 11-stop listening tour to gather input to assist the Kentucky Department of Education in designing a new accountability system. His goal is to collaborate with all shareholders across the state to produce a system that is fair, reliable, valid and simpler. Your feedback on this critically important topic is essential, so please plan on attending one of the sessions, “Education Town Hall Meetings: How does Kentucky define school success?” We must work together to shape a new accountability system that accurately measures the success of Kentucky’s students, schools and districts.
