Annual Oyster Roast and Silent Auction The Chaplaincy’s held its

annual Oyster Roast and

Silent Auction on January

18 at the Charleston Crab

House. The evening was a

great success and we were

able to raise approximately

$14,000 with the help of our

sponsors, South

Carolina Federal Credit

Union and The Children’s

Cancer Corporative!

The Oyster Roast was

attended by over 100 guests

and was filled with laughter

and good times. We were

able to recognize some of

our fantastic volunteers

that add so much to our

ministry such as our

Chaplain of the Year, Spike

Coleman of St. Andrews

Presbyterian Church and

Rookie of the Year,

Chaplain Mark Hunt of

Rockville Presbyterian

Church. We also awarded

Citizen of the Year to North

Charleston Fire Chief Greg

Bulanow, and Business of

the Year to the

Charleston Crab

House. Our

Survivor Follow

Up team mem-

ber of the year

was awarded to

Herbert and

Christine Hill for their

continued support of the

Chaplaincy. Between our

volunteers and donors the

Chaplaincy can continue on

with the ministry God has

set before us.

Chaplain Jesse Jennings has been a

chaplain since October 2011 and has

done an outstanding job with the

Chaplaincy. He has connected with

the First Responder community and

is well respected by all he has

served. He is a retired US

Army Warrant officer of 22

years and a Desert Shield/

Storm Veteran. Chaplain

Jennings stated that “being

able to exercise and use my

God gifted ability to assist the

needy, help in healing the bro-

ken hearted, and provide com-

fort when needed” was why he

become a chaplain. One

memorable call Chaplain

Jennings recalled was his

first suicide call. He learned

“that the outside of an

individual may be deceiving, it's

what's on the inside that we must be

more attentive to and have a discern-

ing spirit.” Chaplain Jennings is a

blessing to all and we are blessed to

have him be a part of the Chaplaincy.

Dear members of the

Coastal Crisis Chaplaincy,

I would like to take a moment to thank you

all for your dedication to emergency service

members and citizens of Charleston County

and North Charleston specifically. It has

been a blessing to work with the chaplain

volunteers who give of their hearts, time

and faith to help support us during difficult

times. I have had ample opportunity to

work with various members of your

ministry of presence. I know that there are

times when I do not have the opportunity to

let them know, on scene, how wonderful I

think they are. They come out day and

night, good weather and bad to serve those

of us affected by crisis. All we have to do

is call. It is comforting to have them with

us on scenes no matter what the

circumstance. Thank you for your ministry

and the gifts of you time and talents in ser-

my community.
