Mental Emotional Needs
Create your own Basic Needs Pyramid
You will create a pyramid by answering the following questions:
* What are the most important things in life for an individual to succeed?
* What order do they go in, most basic on bottom?
* Why did you put them in that order?When you have completed come up to the board and write down your 5 basic needs in order.
What are basic needs?
• Maslow’s Hierarchy
• He wanted to find what motivated people.
• Through his research he found that people strive to reach self-actualization; or being the best that they can be.
Maslow’s Hierarchy • A pyramid to show what needs, need to be met to achieve the best you.
• Physiological Needs
• Food, Water, Air, Etc.
• Safety Needs
• Protection from Elements, Order, and Law
• Love and Belonging Needs
• Friendship, Affection, and Love
• Esteem Needs
• Achievement, Mastery, Self-esteem, and Respect
• Self Actualization
• Realizing your personal potential, Self fulfillment
Reflect
• How does your Basic Needs Pyramid, that you created at the beginning of class, compare to Maslow’s?
• Take 5-7 minutes to write down a few things that you noticed. Compare yours to those around you.

Measure of how much you value, respect and feel confident about yourself. Benefits

Positive self-talk Just as you receive messages from others you
can also receive messages you send yourself Coaching about your own self worth When you have you used self talk?

Self-Concept
Measure of how you view yourself Do you see yourself as valuable and likeable? Do you have a positive self concept?
Interpreting How you interpret messages about yourself plays a huge role in how
you see yourself.
