Chairperson’s Report

On 27th October at the South Perth Learning

centre we had Cate Whelan from South

Australia presenting on the 6th and 12th

houses, which she aptly titled “Sunrise –

Sunset”.

Although Cate comes from a traditional

astrological background, her approach to the 6th

and 12th houses is evolved to a level which takes into account our current

culture and the post-modern era in which we live. The Astrology of the middle

ages was centred around Kings, noblemen and warriors (wars). The feminine

and relationships played second fiddle, consequently we find the Sun in

rulership in Leo (Kings) and detriment in Aquarius (community). Similarly, the

Sun is exalted in Aries (the warrior) and in fall in Libra (relationships and art).

In this context, the 6th and the 12th houses have traditionally been given quite

negative meanings, which we would not want to pass on to a client with planets

in these houses. Cate went on to discuss newer meanings such gut health (so

many books out there) and decluttering, both which come under the 6th house,

and also much was spoken of retreats, meditation and spirituality, all which

come under the 12th house rulership. There was heaps more which I have not

got the space to fit in for this report, so I will just finish by saying that it was a

superb presentation and that Cate is a fine teacher and astrologer.
