PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
Art Show
Last week's exhibition of student creativity was absolutely wonderful to
see. Thank you to all our families who came along to share this
experience. Stephanie Searle, Rel.Director Educational Leadership was
most impressed, as were our visitors who were talking to families about
the new building. A selection of artworks from each class have been
chosen to be displayed in the office foyer and others will be in the new
building and the hall.
Shining Stars
Congratulations to our Shining Stars students who represented our
school last week. This wonderful program gives students from K-12 in
Support classes opportunities in dance, drama, music and visual arts.
Schools were able to nominate 5 students for each program and we
participated in music and visual arts. Our students have spent a number
of weeks working with music and art tutors and then showing off their
talents at two evening and one matinee performance and gallery
exhibition. Thank you to staff and families for supporting this great
opportunity to see our students shine! Be sure to see the many photos
that Miss Jackson has shared on our Facebook site.
Mystic Markets
I know that our Stage 3 students have been working hard to prepare for
this event which is a Year 6 fundraiser. Be sure to make sure your child
has a few dollars with them on Thursday to join in with the activities that
will be on offer. We will even have some of the older style student chairs
for sale and a few tables.

Before & After School Survey
Due to the increasing enrolments at our school over the last few years we have been identified as a potential Before
& After School Care site. In order to complete the application form the school needs to conduct a survey to establish
the level of parent interest. If you may be interested in, please complete the survey and return it to the office by this
Friday. If you are unsure how to complete the survey, please don't hesitate to contact the office. (see back page).
New School Building Opening
It has been exciting to see the new building coming to completion and I know that everyone is very keen to see
inside. Class learning materials will be moved during the holidays and our teachers will have the first few days of next
term to finalise their classroom set up. On Wednesday of Week 1, (16 October), we will hold an open afternoon from
3.15pm - 4.00pm for our community to have a walk through.
This term, our school will be participating in the Partners in Learning parent survey, another part of the Tell Them
From Me suite of surveys (student, teacher and parent surveys) on student engagement. The survey asks parents
and carers questions about different factors that are known to impact on student wellbeing and engagement.
Running this survey will help our school understand parents’ and carers’ perspectives on their child’s experience at
school. These include: communication between parents/carers and staff, activities and practices at home and parent/
carer views on the school's support of learning and behaviour. This valuable feedback will help our school make
practical improvements.
The survey is conducted entirely online on smartphones, iPads, tablets, laptops or computers. The survey will
typically take 15 minutes or less to complete and is completely confidential. The parent survey will be conducted
between 26 August and 25 October. Although participating in the survey is entirely voluntary, your responses are very
much appreciated.
To access the survey for our school go to: http://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/merryps. There will be computer access
during Friday Community Connections in the staffroom. The survey is available in 23 languages.
We are now taking enrolments for 2020. If you have a child or know
someone who has a child turning 5 before 31 July 2020, please come
and visit the office to complete an application form.
On Friday 13 September, Kindergarten had their hearing screened by Macquarie University students and staff.
Students who require follow up by their GP will receive a referral from their child’s teacher this week. If your child
does not bring home any letter then your child has passed the hearing test and no follow up is required.

Winter PSSA has concluded. Unfortunately, with the bad weather, all games were cancelled doe to the ground
conditions. The good news is our Junior and Senior Newcombe Ball teams are both undefeated minor and major
premiers. Amazingly neither team not only didn’t lose a match during the season but they didn’t even give up a set in
any game! Mrs Douglas does a brilliant job coaching these girls the last 20 years. The young ladies pick up on her
enthusiasm and then with some skill and competitiveness of their own, run with it. The team members are:
Juniors - Adea H, Lisa H, Razia M, Amnah A, Manar B, Ealyen A, Zakia Q, Muzhgan T, Isabella C, Chloe M,
Saghar K, Emma A, Zainab Q
Seniors - Crystal Z, Sara H, Farahnaz M, Mariam M, Ilknur A, Bianca W, Farah T, Sara A, Alara A, Artiola H,
Hebba B, Matina N, Mariah S, Ivarose M, Zahra B
Many thanks must also go to Miss Ristivojevic, Miss Nguyen, Mr Sadler,
Miss Kotarski and Mr Douglas for their perseverance. It has been a
difficult year having to travel to Merrylands High School whose
cooperation we really appreciate each week for training. SO well done to all
the team members of netball, rugby league and soccer/football who
attended regularly. Hopefully, next year, with our new building and
playgrounds, we can have a more consistent season. Please note: All
shirts and jumpers are due back to coaches this week.
SPORT REPORT
PSSA
Summer PSSA (softball/t-ball and cricket) commences in Week 2, Term 4 being Friday 25 October. We have a bye
that day due to Swim School. Coaches Mrs Douglas (softball), Mr Sadler (cricket) and Miss Salameh / Miss
Kalamvokis (t-ball) will begin reorganising teams this week. Any new student will be given an opportunity to trial early
next term. The other players will remain in the same teams from Term 1. A draw and training times will be distributed
in the first Term 4 newsletter.
Our Regional (Sydney West Area) Athletics Carnival will be held on Thursday 17 October 2019. We have 5 students attending, Matina N, Michael N, Bahran S, Simon T and Artiola H. Mrs Timbs and Mrs Douglas are organising their transport to and from the venue.

Sadler, Mrs Douglas and attending teachers are organising timetables and arrangements this week now that all notes
and payments have been received.

Newcombe Ball 2019 Congratulations!
Juniors – Undefeated Premiers
What a magnificent season these girls have enjoyed. A team of new and old players mixed beautifully to create an awesome
team. Lisa and Muzghan the quiet achievers who serve with force and spike with confidence. Adea, Manar and Emma
pocket rockets full of enthusiasm and talent. Zainab, Ealyen and Saghar who continue to improve with every game.
Unfortunately Najma and Tarah missed a whole term of games and they were both improving early in the season. Razia who
served with power to ensure many points for MPS. Isabella and Chloe who are both growing in confidence. Zakia who is a
determined competitor who never gives up. Amnah(captain of the final) played outstanding in the Semi Final with a gigantic
smile and perseverance. Thank you to all the girls for your sportsmanship and teamwork throughout the season.
Seniors – Undefeated Premiers
The senior team has had a wonderful season – every player has contributed to every game and displayed honesty and a
positive attitude. This teams commitment to winning showed determination and perseverance. Hebba and Crystal the
players who have skills all over the court. Mariah, Bianca, Sara, Ivarose and Zahra first timers at Newcombe Ball and have
improved throughout the season to be powerful servers and skillful catchers. Faranaz’s confidence in her ability has
improved and now she can spike, catch and serve sensationally. Mariam has returned to Newcombe Ball with height and
an awesome spike and serve. Crystal and Sara both have super skills and can pull off terrific spikes, serves and catches.
Farah and Ilknur who have quietly worked hard to be important team members. Finally Artiola and Matina from Year 3 to
Year 6 both girls have given 100% to Newcombe Ball they are always enthusiastic and are determined to be the best. They
can catch the hardest spikes and serves, serve with placement and spike with power. Matina was also our final’s captain
who quietly encourages all on the court. These girls have made me so proud and I cannot thank them enough for making
training, lunchtimes and the games enjoyable. The smiles of girls playing sport are amazing!
Thank you to both teams!
