Mesa-redonda – Estratégias para estimular a publicação em revistas brasileiras Moderador: Ricardo Azevedo - USP; ABEC
Avaliação fast track de manuscrito Claude Pirmez - Fiocruz
Internacionalização do corpo editorial Jorge Carneiro - FGV
Gestão do processo editorial Gustavo Habermann - Unesp
I thank the following editors (in alphabetical order of first name) of Latin American scientific journals for sharing their insightful experiences:
• Carlo Bellini – Brazilian Administration Review (BAR)
• Eduardo Diniz – Revista de Administração de Empresas (RAE)
• Fernando Serra – Revista Ibero-Americana de Estratégia
• Gustavo Motta – Revista de Administração Contemporânea (RAC)
• Herbert Kimura – Revista de Administração Contemporânea (RAC)
• Maria Alejandra Gonzalez-Perez – AD-minister (Colombia)
• What criteria should determine the composition of the editorial board? • How to attract foreign top scholars to be members of the editorial
board? • How can foreign members of the editorial board stimulate non-
domestic authorship and readership?
InternacionalizaçãodocorpoeditorialJorgeCarneiro,FGV
The reality of Latin American journals
• No competitive process to select members of the editorial board • Personal relationships of the editor-in-chief A philosophical matter: • What scope of “internationalization” makes sense for your journal? • Does it vary across areas of knowledge? Impact: • JCR Impact Factor - Web of Science (USA, Canada, Western Europe) • SCImago / SJR - Scopus (USA, Canada, Western Europe) • SciELO (Latin America, Portugal, Spain, South Africa) • SPELL (Business/Management journals in Brazil)
A chicken-and-egg problem:
A means (internationalization of the editorial advisory board) to an
end (attract top-level authorship, expand readership, and increase citations)
The vicious circle: non-indexation in top rankings (e.g., WoS) è less attraction of top scholars è fewer top-level contributions è low international authorship/readership è low citation è non-indexation in top rankings…
The virtuous circle: attraction of top scholars è higher number of top-level contributions è rise in international authorship/readership è rise in citation è eventual indexation in top rankings è eventual increase in impact factor è attraction of top scholars…
