Dear Friends,

I am glad to inform that our second departmental newsletter has been

successfully released. All the technical as well as non-Technical events, taking

place in the department arecovered.It should be our collective responsibility

to make this activity a resounding success.

My best wishes for the entire team for the future.

FROM THE EDITOR’S DESK

It gives me immense pleasure in bringing out this Second Volume of our

Departmental Newsletter under the leadership of Our Principal Dr.L.G.Navale.

The newsletter has served as a tool for disseminating information about the

department and generating valuable feedback about its programs and events.

The last six months have been academically quite productive in the College.

The increase in intake along with new Building of our college has boosted

spirit of everyone. The Semester examinations are in full swing .Strict

adherence to the academic schedule for the last few years inspire the

confidence of all concerned.

I take this opportunity to thank the Principal, Vice-Principal, Our H.O.D, and all

other Heads of the Departments, for their continued cooperation and support

in publishing this newsletter.

3. Departmental Activities:

This semester our Department conducted various workshop and Guest Lectures for students.

3.1Guest Lectures:

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES IN TELECOM

A Guest lecture was given by Dr.MilindPande , Project Director at MIT school of Telecom on 26/2/2011 to B.E.(E&TC) students.. He briefed the students about various career opportunities in telecommunication domain. He convinced the students that 5.2 lacs jobs are available in telecom fields and hence students should pursue their career in Hard core electronics field only instead of moving to software/IT industries. He briefed the students about the potential in telecom market. He discussed various technologies and their emergence in India – 2G, 3G, and 4G.He also discussed the importance of value added services provided by the service provider. His presentation also included three technical quizzes in which winners were given a chocolate.

3.2 Workshops

Autonomous Robotics

ROBOCLUB has arranged a workshop on “Autonomous ROBOTICS” for ROBOCLUB members in MESCOE on 29th and 30th January’11. Target audience was SE, TE and BE (E &TC, Mechanical and Computer) Students. Course Duration was of 16 hours.It was a basic Robotics training program

which introduced the participants to the field of Robotics and nurturing their interest in Autonomous Robotics. Here the students got the opportunity to learn the basics of Robotics, all the electronics and mechanical aspects and design concepts. They studied Microcontroller based Autonomous decision making and its applications for line Tracing and Obstacle detection and Obstacleavoidance.Theworkshopwasheld as Theory sessions followed by Hands-on sessions where the participants got the touch n feel of the sensors, controllers and Actuators. The workshop kits were also provided to them which is very useful for them for the further robotic applications.The workshop was conducted by OJAS Trainer Pvt. Ltd. It was a great Event and students learnt a lot!!!

CISCO ROUTING AND SWITCHING

A workshop of 3 days was organized for B.E.(E&TC) students on Cisco Routing And Switching by Prof.K.S.Tiwari and Prof .N.Masood. The workshop was scheduled on 10-12 March 2011. The topics covered were

Basics of Networking.

Configuration, Verification, and troubleshoot basic router operation and

routing on Cisco devices.

Implementation of NAT and ACLs used in enterprise environment network

Configuration, Verification, and Troubleshoot a switch with VLANs and

inter-switch communications.

ANTENNA DESIGN

A 2 days workshop on antenna Design was arranged by Prof. P. N. Kota, Prof. P. P. Mane, Prof. R. S. Kadam, Prof. B. M. Narute on 5th and 6th Feb 2011 (8 A.M to 8 P.M).And it was conducted by Ojhas Training centre. It was arranged for T.E.(E&TC) students in lab 422.In this workshop, Basics of antenna, Design of Antenna on NEC software, and Implementation of monopole, yagiudha and microstrip Antenna were discussed. There were total 41 students and three staff presents for this workshop.

Industrial Tour

An industrial tour was organized for third and final year E&TC students at GMRT , NarayanGaon on 1st March by Mrs.A.A.Phadke and Prof.P.B.chopade.At GMRT 28 Feb and 1st March is observed as a Science Day.Around 50 B.E and 50 T.E. ETC students attended this tour along with staffmembers.Students got to see various stalls kept by different students of engineering/polytechnic college.They were explained the working of Asia’s largest dish antenna.

4. STAFF ACHIEVEMENTS: 1. Prof. R.S.Kadam achieved a new milestone this semester of

completing her M.E. with Microwave with first class. 2. Prof K.S.Tiwari attended a one day workshop on research

methodologies in FPGA at AISSMS college of engineering on 21st Jan 2011 .

3. Prof.P.N.Kota attended a workshop on Telecom: Going beyond voice and text” arranged by MIT school of telecom Management on 28 th Jan 2011 at Hotel Le-Meridian, Pune.The topics discussed were-

1. Increasing penetration rate for the untapped broadband

market

2. Opportunities in local content development for

entreprenerurial ventures.

3. Innovation in application and content development as part of

Value added Services.

5. STUDENTS ACHEIVEMENTS:

Our B.E. E&TC students Amar Khopade won second prize in paper presentation competition in SAGA’11 held at MESCOE , Pune for their paper titled “optimized Lookahead Carry adder using reversible logic”.Besides this he presented his project work at various competions held in Pune university.He also presented a paper at an international conference ICTSM-11 held in Mumbai.His paper got selected for publication in International Journal of computer Applications out of 30% conference proceedings.Also his one more paper entitled “ Design of Novel Bianry Multiplier using reversible logic” got accepted for publication in International journal of advances in engineering Technology.He worked under the guidance of Prof.K.S.Tiwari.

Craig Johnson and Abhishek Narla of E&TC secured first position in paper presnation competition held at Cummins college of Engineering for their paper titled “ Guitar effects processing using DSP”.They are working under the guidance of Prof.P.P.Mane.

6. JHANKAAR 2011:

Every year the students gather in order to participate in the cultural program of the college “Jhankaar”.

It provides a media for all the students to come in front and show their talents and interact with each other in order to know them. It forms a complete package of entertainment for all , the teachers and the students. This time it was bigger. There were cultural events spanned throughout the week before

Jhankaar like Rangoli, Mehendi, Stage decoration competition and Drawing competition,.Also simulataneously auditions of various activities like singing , dancing , fashion show , drama were going simultaneously. This time we had an event which was the highlight of the competitions drawing more number of people than any event and that was “Treasure Hunt”.

7.SAGA-2011:

This semester our college conducted a huge inter collegiate technical as well as non-technical activities in which our all three departments students actively participated. SAGA’11 was scheduled on 25-27 March 2011.

The festival saw an equal mix of around twenty five technical and non-technical competitions. The major technical events were paper presentation , roborace , aqua krieg, C-thon, knowelex, circuit design and debugging,Make your website, Taurus productions,etc.Also there were few non-technical events like slow biking ,treasure hunt,LAN games etc.

8.WALL MAGAZINE:

Our department provided a platform for E&TC students for showing their talents through wall magazine”Astitva” under the guidance of Prof.P.N.Kota .This activity is well managed and coordinated by students incharge sarthak kand and Vidya Patil.It was inaugurated by our Principal Dr. L.G.Navale.

9.Women’s Day Celebration

Women’s Day was celebrated on 8th March by all our ladies staff member.A

guest lecture was organized by Prof.A.A.Phadke and Prof .M.P.Dale of Dr.Smita

Bora on health awareness. The activity was co-ordinated by T.E.(E&TC)

students and it was attended by all department ladies staff.The women of all

department celebrated their day by going out for lunch.
